Any way to read my Sony books on a Nook?
Are any of these readers ever going to be interoperational? I have a PRS-505 and was considering getting a nook but if I did, I'd like to be able to potentially sell my Sony reader or give it to a family member without loosing access to all my purchases. Is this possible?

The nook will work with the new Sony ePub files and in my opinion look better on the nook then on the Sony.

As Madam Broshkina said, Sony ePub is Adobe ePub and so the ebooks are tied to an AdobeID which allows 6 reading devices. Many dedicated ebook reading devices now support Adobe ePub, including the Nook.

Epub is a standard unrelated to DRM. An EPub document with no attached DRM is freely portable between devices. There is no concept of an Adobe ID for an EPub document without DRM. The Adobe ID is only for DRM. It is the key, if you will.
Sony and BN implement DRM - differently. Today books with DRM can not port freely between Sony and Nook. Robert |

rmm20, that is not correct. Sony eBooks WILL work on the nook.
Both B&N and Sony use the Adobe RMSDK. B&N added to it their new DRM, but the old DRM which the sony uses still works. So yes, any books you buy from the sony store CAN be used on your nook. If you bought them a while ago you may need to re-download them to make sure you have the ePub version of your books and not the lrf version. Please check out the following link to read about reading books from Sony or Overdrive on your nook: http://blog.threepress.org/2009/12/1...nderer-review/ |

Presumably an epub from the B&N store with the new B&N DRM will not work on the Sony, or any device other than the nook?

That is currently the case. Support for B&N's DRM mechanism should appear on other ePub devices in the future, as other manufacturers start using the latest version of Adobe's software.

If they are LRF, you can use Calibre to convert to ePup.

ANY LRF file can be converted to epub or whatever one's choice is, as long as calibre (since that's the application that's been under discussion) has the capability of converting to one's file of choice. Don |

Calibre can convert LRF to ePub.
