Not to be confused with Aldous Huxley’s book with the same title, this is an edited translation by an eye-witness. The editor has also seen fit to add a lot of information about Scottish witch-trials in the appendices and footnotes.

Several of the footnotes have their own footnotes. I have renumbered the main notes consecutively, put them at the end of the book and linked them. The notes within notes are put in square brackets within the original note.
