Unhappy Opus with Mac?

Hi all,

I just purchased an Opus and it seems a little more complicated than what I had read about it.

I bought an ebook online, and now I want to put it on the Opus. Everything I've read seems to say that I have to open Adobe Digital Editions (ADE), connect the Opus and ADE will recognize the device and offer to add/authorize it. Then, I should see it in my libraries and I can drag and drop or whatever.

However, I see the ebook in ADE, but when I plug the Opus to my computer ADE does NOT recognize the Opus. Therefore, I have no idea how to put my brand new, officially bought/downloaded ebook onto the device.... Can anyone help, please?

I have a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard, and I see the device in the Finder as a normal USB storage (drag and drop of open content to that works fine).

Thanks!!!

Is that the new Mac operating system? Perhaps ADE isn't "up to date" with it yet?

Hi Harry,

Yes, it's the new Mac OS. I'll try from an older computer, just to make sure it's not a general Mac incompatibility problem.

Has anyone else connected the Opus on a Mac? Did ADE prompt to authorize the Opus?

Is there any other way I can put an ePub on the Opus?

Thanks!

In the past you needed to use a Windows machine to authorize the device in ADE and it would work in ADE on the Mac after that. I don't know if that's changed or not yet.

It's likely - on 25th of August Apple announced the system will not be released around the end of October, but earlier - and released it 3 days later, surprising developers as well. The company I work for is still trying to finish patching our software to work on a new system, and I'm sure we're not the last with this problem.

That is true for the Sony only because there was no "driver" for the Mac.

I was unable to convince ADE on 10.5 to talk to my Opus. Eventually worked around the problem by "liberating" the purchased book and then copying it to the device with Finder. I know it's not legal but I don't have an ethical problem with it if I'm not redistributing.

But I didn't try authorising the Opus on a Windows box so I don't know if that would've done the trick.

Do you mean you authorised it on a Windows system and then ADE on Mac would talk to it? If so, annoying but better than nothing.

No; I just mean that authorisation on a Windows PC worked.

Does your cybook show correclty on your Desktop? If not there could be a problem here.

The Cybook Opus can be authorised from a mac computer, you do not need a PC for this. I don't know if SnowLeopard is supported for now by ADE, but I don't see why it wouldn't...

ADE works perfectly well in Snow Leopard and can authorise both the Mac itself and your connected reader. The trick is to connect the Opus to the Mac before launching ADE - it will then detect the Opus and let you view the contents as well as move items to and fro.

The ePub files will be stored in your Documents/Digital Editions folder and can be dragged into the mounted Opus on your desktop.
