Herminie Templeton Kavanagh was still Herminie Templeton when this collection of her whimsical Darby O'Gill stories appeared. This collection, and the second collection which appeared nearly 20 years later, formed the basis for the Disney movie "Darby O'Gill and the Little People", with a very young Sean Connery, and Janet Munro as the romantic leads.

The full original title was "Darby O'Gill and the Good People".
