Oh, now I remember which clicker was a pain. The 5-way.
The lower button generates VolUp and Enter. The 5-way up is also VolUp. The others are MediaNext, MediaPrevious, VolDn and center is Menu. I also don't particularly like 5-ways, especially when they are recessed. OTOH, this has a long sleep timeout. |

A number of users on the Kobo subreddit have reported the 8bitdo micro work through mapping on the map in k mode without any config on the kobo. Using the app, I mapped it to page forward and back, homepage, and sleep. I'd be interested to know what other keyboard functions could map to the navigation screen or between chapters or even editing font settings. Other than that, I am liking the small size and the fact I don't need to use the clip on margins.

Clip-ons are the lowest of low tech.
Even if you have to do that for some silly reason, you can make your own with a bit of copper foil that you punch out with a notebook hole puncher. Add two diodes and a driver circuit that will forward and reverse polarize them and you're done. This has a lower profile than any clip-on. The 8bitdo is kind of cute. |

If you have an Android phone you can pair your remote with that as a test. You can use my UsbMode.apk app to see what keys your remote is sending.

[KFMon] Internal storage unavailable, bye !
Hey CyberPaul
I have a Kobo Libra Color 2 device. I installed KFMON mod on my KLC2 ebook reader. There is this message that shows every time at the bottom of the screen every time i power off or shut down my KLC2: [KFMon] Internal storage unavailable, bye ! I guess this is meant to be system message but it appears on the screen when the device is powered off How do you hide or turn off this message from showing on the screen after the device is powered off? Thank you |

Hello people, I'm wondering if there is a software similar to evtest for Mac to capture keycodes from a cheap bluetooth page turner device. (Got from Aliexpress. Image below.)
I go this device out of curiosity and with my config (based on educated guess) all the buttons just turn the page back. Without evtest I'm at a disadvantage here. Things I've tested and confirmed working: 1. The bt remote works on my mac and Android phone flawlessly 2. My BT mouse works perfectly on my Kobo Interestingly, I did see a post on this thread that led me to a blog post with the exact device as mine but it's a couple years old and the config no longer works. The device appears as "Beauty-R1". I have a raspberrypi but I could never get the BT device connect with it. (Connection drops soon after it's paired.) So I want to give it one more shot before I buy a 8bitdo Micro. My current config (which turns the page back for all the buttons) Quote:

I'm not well versed with the BT lore in Kobo parlance, but is there any hope for me? Last edited by issybird; 11-16-2024 at 09:08 AM. Reason: Oversize image attached as thumbnail. Please read the guidelines for limits on image size. |

You can always do some sleuthing with my UsbMode.apk on an Android phone.
It's on my website. Also, some misguided clickers send multiple keys for a click. I find mouse/absolute position commands on clickers to be bogus. |

@Renate Thank you so much. That's exactly what I needed. Through your UsbMode app I found the following:
1. The directional buttons act like a mouse cursor. Their actions mimic swipes not not button presses! (In hindsight it makes sense as the device was advertised as a remote for tiktok.) 2. Only the camera button (at the very bottom) registers a button click as follows: (pressing the button alternates between VOLUME_DOWN and VOLUME_UP Quote:

P.S.: Love the old school design of your website. Just functional without bloat. |

Lol! It's not intentional, just laziness.
Are you sure that this thing doesn't have other modes? Like turn it on while pressing some button combination? Many of these things have the characteristics programmed in an EPROM. I've often reprogrammed them for other keys and especially device name. OTOH, changing a "mouse" button to a key might take some effort. |

Ah the unexpected virtue of ignorance!
Per the cryptic message in the "manual", there seems to be a mode but I could never figure out what it does. It just seems to move the cursor slowly, sort of an alignment mechanism to figure out the camera button. But no noticeable button clicks. Anyway, my next idea is to figure out if there's a way to reprogram the controller inside (I guess something similar to an Arduino nano or even simpler?) or just outright replace the control board. I really like the form factor. So I'd hate to throw it out. I'm a software guy with only a few Arduino experience when it comes to hardware and embedded systems. Any pointers on reprogramming these devices? Blogs, books or search keywords? Thank you. |
