Question Simon Tatham's portable puzzle collection?

Has anyone worked on porting the famous Tatham collection to Kobo? They are "portable", after all - and would be a great thing to have!

https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/puzzles/

(Don't look at me - I am merely a hopeful Kobo user, no developer.)

Just saw that these puzzles were ported to Pocketbook ereaders last year

https://github.com/SteffenBauer/PocketPuzzles

and I wonder, if this isn't possible for Kobo ereaders (especially for the vlasovsoft -package).
OK, an ereader ist primarly for reading books, but I agree, to play now and then one of these small games really would be very nice!

This is interesting, I might develop a KoBox add-on that could work on InkBox OS devices.

I haven't heard anything beyond what is in this thread. I hope someone has, or will, take(n) this up.

And I have a PocketBook Era by now, so I'd be interested in having it work there as well.

[Edit;}
I just found [this](https://github.com/SteffenBauer/PocketPuzzles). I haven't looked into it yet, but even if it doesn't work, it may inspire developers.

Since user raisjn ported rmkit (his platform for the Remarkable) to fbink, this opens the door for the puzzles collection (which has an rmkit version) to run on devices supported by fbink, i.e. your Kobo.

In practice, user Clouds had puzzles working on his Kobo Aura One, but needed some help from raisjn.
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...6&postcount=13

So, Kobo Aura One should be OK now... H2O may require disturbing raisjn from his deep sleep to get the touch screen working.

The version I mentioned above works perfectly on the Era (and, I understand, on most or all PocketBooks). It also has lots of puzzles that are not in the standard collection.

Well it's all Free&Open Source - (hopefully not GPL-violating) so... the more the merrier.
That said, if it supports alot of devices, it could be that people were motivated to at least try it when new, and give useful feedback.

By now I know the developer is active, and very open to feedback.

Also depends on how many bugs there are to fix - say in the early stages of porting to new devices/platform/toolkit, it is more helpful for someone to run diagnostic tests and isolate problem code, while in the later stage feature requests may be more welcome.

So that is more good news from raisjn about rmkit on the new Kobo devices!

Although I was looking at the Pocketbook Verse Pro Color, and it seems to have superior performance and battery numbers than the Tolino equivalent of Clara Colour. But will Pocketbook ever get rmkit ?

why did that post go to the wrong thread? i guess that i must have been sleepy from the hibernation. thanks for quoting in the right spot

i just tested puzzles on clara color and it works fine. uploaded it here: https://build.rmkit.dev/puzzles/latest/

re: pocketbook: i have a pocketbook color and was testing on it last year, but if i recall everything was rotated and it required software rotation (instead of framebuffer) - i didn't have the energy to implement software rotation. maybe around the holidays i can try again

There is a good PocketBook version of SGT puzzles [here](https://github.com/SteffenBauer/PocketPuzzles) - and it has quite a few more puzzles than the standard distributions do.
It works flawlessly for me on my Era (P700), and on a list of others, as reported on the Github repo.

I think you are "sleeping" on the benefits - e.g. someone who doesn't even own a pocketbook could write an app that works on pocketbook!

That sounds like a "dream" becoming a reality!
