EDIT: ADE 2.01 is running on a Windows 10 PC. Now, the formatting wasn't to MY particular preference, as there were spaces between the paragraphs, and headings were left aligned, unlike the original print books where they were centered, but the book was perfectly readable, the navigation worked, and I really couldn't see any problem AT ALL that should phase the average reader. Because it worked with Adobe 2.01, it should also open up on an older Sony, Nook, and of course Kobo readers. I opened 'er up in Sigil, ran the epubCheck plugin, valid. CSS also valid except for some ebook specific stuff and there wasn't much of that. I can guarantee that many big publisher books don't pass epubCheck. Are you sure the book doesn't work (i.e. unreadable, unnavigable, unopenable), or is it just that you don't care for the formatting? Last edited by graycyn; 04-14-2023 at 03:59 PM. |

Find it funny that Jon is constantly at people to upgrade Calibre (and upgrade their version of Windows if they can't run the newest Calibre) but he won't upgrade his ADE

StandardEbooks do have covers. It's just the way the books are formatted. The cover isn't the first xhtml file. I open the books with Sigil and use Add Cover to fix it. (I also justify the text.)

StandardEbooks is a curious case. It seems they are trying to squeeze something sensible out of the dumb HTML while a real book-tailored XML would do the job much easier.
Oh and apparently someone tried to reproduce the MOBI index functionality in EPUB... failing miserably. |

I hadn't heard of Standard Ebooks before. And it's not really something I have a huge interst in. But because of "certain people" and their odd complaints I suddenly feel "gosh, I really need to support this site..." Go figure...

Sorry to bump an old thread but, please clear something up for me.
If I make a one time donation of say...$10, would I get access to bulk downloads and other perks? Or is that strictly for recurring donations? It doesn't seem like they make that very clear, or maybe I'm just confused. |

It looks like you must join the Patrons Circle in order to access the bulk downloads, which costs either $10 monthly or $100 for a year. I suppose if you sign up for a month, you can download as many books as you want during that month, and then you can cancel, but there may be some sort of safeguards in place to prevent you from downloading their entire library for a single $10 donation.

It doesn't seem so. The Patron's Circle is for reoccurring $10+ monthly donations and for those who make a large $100+ one-time donation. A single one-off smaller donation is just a direct contribution with no extra benefits. I assume you could sign up for monthly and then cancel, but that'd be pretty uncool.
The actual donations page spells it out that only the $100 level of the one-time donations allows access to the Patron's Circle: https://fundraising.fracturedatlas.o...eneral_support |
