Kindle scribe: do specific parts of the touchscreen skip by more than one page,

So I bought a Amazon Kindle scribe eight days ago and I've been using it every day four hours but I've noticed that when I tried to skip a page on random occasions it jumps by like 20 to 50 pages so I'm wondering whether the touching has certain portion of the screen makes it jump by more pages than one?

I’m not aware of such a “feature”, and mine doesn’t do that; is your Scribe on the latest version of the software? Mine is on 5.16.9, so if yours is on a more recent version it could be a bug introduced recently; otherwise I wouldn’t rule out a hardware issue.

FWIW, my PW3 with firmware 5.13.3 also does this. It is very occasional and I can't reproduce consistently. Quite annoying when it happens.

My Scribe is running 5.16.10.1, I've not noticed this behavior.

OS is on the latest one according to The software updates in device options menu I'm on I'm on 5.16.9 I just had the skipping multiple page happen again when I softly touch the bottom right corner to skip one page forward he jumps about seven pages back


This device is only about a one week old from opening

5.16.10.1 is the latest firmware.

The menu is confusing; as mentioned by Deskisamess, the latest firmware is in fact 5.16.10.0.1. For some reason the message states it is the latest version even though there is a more recent version out. It seems the Kindle doesn’t actually check the Amazon servers for updates when opening the Software Updates menu.

For the record I spent a few minutes trying to reproduce this on my side as I don’t normally use the corner to flip pages. I tried various orientations, different books (some purchased from Amazon, some downloaded via Send To Kindle), with and without the page flip animation, and I was not able to reproduce this. It does seem to me that your Scribe might be badly calibrated or defective. You could try manually updating to the most recent version of the software; if it doesn’t help you might want to return it and get a new one, while you are in the return window.

And this is the perfect example of why saying "I'm running the latest version" is just not an acceptable or valid answer when asked which firmware version one's device is running.

One example is my Paperwhite 4 (10th gen) which I use for testing ebooks I am editing and seldom read on. It seems to update within hours of a new firmware release. One of my neighbours is still on 5.16.9 and their Paperwhite 4 reports itself as up to date.

This seems to happen rather often. Sometimes, I wonder if Amazon rolls out so many copies of a new firmware and then waits for feedback before making the firmware available to all or if they are simply reducing the load on their servers by limiting the number of downloads.
