Problem sorting authors

I want to sort authors by first name but i get error when i try to do that:

The error is more of a warning to say the sort is not what calibre is expecting.

If you want to use that method or sorting for all authors/books, then you need to change the defaults , see https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...70&postcount=3

I changed 'author_sort_copy_method' value from 'comma' to 'copy' but it still won't sort authors by first name and still showing the error.

Changing the Preferences is for FUTURE adds.

The sort you see are EXISTING sorts.

One of the reasons to not do the immediate change is some of those may have 'corrected' data (names that do not fit the general rules).
After you make the change: Right click any Autor in the Tag Browser: Manage Authors: Recalculate all author sort values (a Button at the bottom)
in your case the Copy button might do

Could you add Manage to the Column header Context menus where appropriate?

IIRC manage is available in the book details context menu already, assuming you keep that open.

Nope. Thank for the reply as there are things I have missed.
I use 3 monitors (the one on the right is a 20YO VGA LCD in Portrait. Run them till they drop )

OK well then you can add a button for it to your regular context menu or toolbar via Preferences->Toolbar & menus

IIRC it is called "manage categories"

Thanks, this worked for fixing 'Author sort'. But it still shows error for 'Title sort'.

In Preferences->Tweaks, what do you have in 'title_series_sorting'. If you want leading articles… A, An, The, and Is… effectively ignored, you need 'library_order' in title_series_sorting and then use Bulk metadata edit to reset selected books.



Suggest you try on a few books to make sure it does what you want… e.g. put "Way of Zen, The" into Title Sort.

I have 'library_order' in title_series_sorting, but i guess the problem is that A, An, The are ignored. I want to sort 'The Way of Zen' by 'T' letter, not be 'W'.

Then you should set title_series_sorting = 'strictly_alphabetic', then per_language_title_sort_articles is irrelevant

The default setting is 'library_order'
