I am having a weird bug. I emailed the developers with no response, so I am posting about it here.

Some ebooks are not reliably listed as "downloaded" even once a format for the book has been downloaded. Those books do not appear in the list of downloaded books and they cannot be opened via the "Read" button. However, they can be opened via the button to open a specific format. (On the book details page, below the cover image.)

It appears that some books, when downloaded via Calibre Sync, are downloaded to the device's Books folder and to the Downloads folder. Those books work normally. Others are downloaded only to the Books folder. Those books do not appear as "downloaded books" in Calibre Sync and cannot be opened using the "read" button (or using the "download and open" swipe). Strangely, they can be opened via the "formats" button, and doing so results in a copy of the book appearing in the Downloads folder. (This does not fix any of the other functionality I mentioned.)

I have not been able to figure out why some books are affected and others are not. Has anyone encountered this? Does anyone know of a fix?

glad it's not just me that the dev is ignoring, unfortunately I can't help much as it won't even install on my device despite it saying its compatible.

I know with Calibre Companion that you had to save books to the Kindle folder not the Books folder for them to work properly could it be something similar?

Just a silly question, since calibre sync is not a book reader. Do you have an apk to read books on your cell phone?

Try running calibre in debug mode and posting the log when you transfer the affected books. (No idea if the log will show anything for the calibre wireless driver or not).

Is there anything different in calibre between books that handle the different ways?

I think that's very likely it. When I switched to using Syncthing to create a local copy of my library (so all ebook files were on my device, in a different folder, and there was no need to download anything), Calibre Sync worked normally.

Yes, I have Koreader installed on my Boox tablet.

That is a really good idea. I am going to put a pin in this, because (a) the developers don't seem to care and (b) I prefer the Calibre Companion interface, but if I come back to the issue I will try that. Thanks!

That's strange. I've never had any issue dealing with the Calibre Sync developers; they've always been highly responsive to my bug / issue reports and have worked with me to get a resolution.

Filter by Date

Hello, I've recently purchased Calibre Sync and am not having any luck with the Filter by Date function. What I am trying to do is filter to the books that were added to my Calibre library during a certain timeframe, but when I use the Filter by date range it appears to be pulling any book that has any activity for that date range - it was added to Calibre, it was read, it was published, it was added to Calibre Sync, etc.

Is there any way to do what I am trying to do? I searched this forum but didn't find anything that helped.

TIA,
--Sel

Try not using the date filter option and use the filter option (the funnel in the toolbar) by columns.
This way your result will be more accurate.

I've been looking for the option since yesterday, but surely if it exists, I have it in front of me, and I'm not seeing it.
Calibre Sync noob here - but AFAICT you haven't gotten a response.
From reading this thread I gather that CS primarily creates a database index of one or more Calibre apps (via connecting as a wireless device or via the content service OR via opening the file image of a Calibre which could be pretty much anywhere, including already copied into local storage on your device).
Again, from my reading here, CS needs either an accessible running Calibre app (connect as wireless device or connect to content server) or a copy/copies of the library folder the Calibre app stores books and database in.
I haven't seen anything indicating it might be able to read / extract-from a CC library.
If you've already got those books in your own Calibre app, just sync from there. If you've pulled those books down from other Calibre apps, you might have to install your own Calibre app, copy the books in your CC folder to the same machine that app is on, import the lot (probably a huuuge task given that you're using a CC file template to get around many files in a FAT filesystem folder) and finally get them into Calibre Sync.
FWIW, when I installed CS, I tried both connect as wireless device and content server. Both were desperately slow. I've had best luck copying my entire Calibre app library folder to the mobile device, telling CS to sync from that.
The fact that you were using a CC file template suggests you have a mobile device with an insertable SD card. They're pretty cheap now...

I did look to do that but I don't have the date column as an available filter option - the only date field that's there currently is Read Date.

Is there a way to add/remove what filters show up in that bar?

I even tried adding a custom column in Calibre to mirror what's in the date column, but short of manually entering the date for over 4000 books, I don't see a way to get the data there - I tried creating a lookup column, but as a previous posted mentioned, that doesn't appear to show up as a custom column to be able to filter from.

Is there any way to get 'progress' when synching a library?
I have 10-11K books, download my entire library folder onto my Android SD card using FolderSync (highly recommended, BTW)
When I've synced a new version of my library (more books, tab editing, etc.) I press the sync button on CS and things go dead for a bit. A progress bar is probably too much to ask for, just given all the potential library sources, but is there any way to see sync progress?

Let's try another option
checking the sort option and then look for your custom column

All cover images dissapeared after a sync?
A bit of background:
Android 13
Calibre Sync has just one library
Full copy of my on-PC Calibre library folder on my tablet SD card
I periodically run a one-way 'sync' from PC to tablet using FolderSync, usually after I've added a book or done some clean up.
The library has about 11K books

OK, so covers dissappearing.
Calibre Sync had been working fine (showing - as far as I could tell - all cover images, both in the per-book view and the 'Detailed List' layout on the main panel.
In Calibre, I added a couple of books and did some tag editing on a few others, so I went to FolderSync, synched the folders.
I went to CalibreSync, tapped the 'sync' button in the main view - and now all my covers are gone.
I have tried syncing again (multiple times, both with 'skip covers already on device' on and off)
I have deleted the library (in CalibreSync, not the folder on the SD card), re-added it.
As it's a local (on SD card) folder, I've re-added it (went through giving Android read permissions to it) and re synchronized.
So far, no luck.
I've used a file explorer to look at a number of book folders, making sure that each has a cover.jpg - they all did.
Any suggestions on what to try next?

Nobody?
Since then, I've deleted data, uninstalled, rebooted, then re-installed, re-copied the local copy of my Calibre library - and still no images. Still no response to my question to their tech support email.
Bright side: it continues to work without issue on my Note 9.
