I believe my Kindle Scribe has entered a strange state where it was updated to 5.16.6 -- while I believe it has preserved bridge.sh from emergency-bridge-recovery.zip (it shows ** JAILBREAK ** at startup), MRPI and KUAL were not yet installed, so no functionality that allows installation (e.g. ;log doesn't work) is available. From reading the bridge.sh, it seems that we still have the package signing key available, so we should theoretically be able to sign a downgrade package (or a package updating the current version.txt). Is it possible to do so?--for example, is the private key to the dev jailbreaking key available somewhere? Relatedly, I wasn't able to get the hotfix package to install (either the one in this thread or the HF one at https://fw.notmarek.com/khf/), but I believe this may be normal since versions past 5.16.2 don't seem to be supported. Many thanks.

My Scribe is on 5.16.8, after installing hotfix and other packages from Marek's hard float website, it is perfectly running KOReader and Usbnetlite. If you need more packages, You need to use version downgrade script mentioned in the same page. I am staying on 5.16.8, as Scribe & Koreader seems faster and also the main selling point is the Chrome Browser(for reading google news). I had a Jailbroken scribe on 5.16.2 and opted for manual upgrade to 5.16.8, for better Internet Browsing experience.

Cool, thanks for pioneering!
Could you please check if you this problem when you start KOReader in landscape modes? https://github.com/koreader/koreader...ent-2229993784 Open KOReader and setup a gesture you know to Exit KOReader (I have two-finger rotation counter clockwise for this). This is in case you get stuck. 2 and 4 are just two landscape modes. Enter a Kindle book, rotate screen to landscape. Exit kindle book Open KOReader. Please see if your touch input is mirrorred with respect what you see on screen (e.g. top menu is now triggered on the bottom). If that’s the case you can exit from KOReader via gesture, then go to kindle book and rotate back to portrait |

I updated my jailbroken Paperwhite 11 from FW 5.16.2.1 (with regular Hotfix applied) to 5.16.10.0.1. When booting "Jailbreak" is displayed at the bottom of the display. But when applying the hard float Hotfix & UYK (or rebooting), "Update failed" is displayed along with "Update Error 2" at the top left of the screen. Any ideas? (Keeping the JB would be nice but is not critical, that's why I tried the update). Very best wishes Pete |

Do I still need to run the hard float JB Hotfix? I am asking because: Installation of the Hotfix files for the hard float JB Hotfix and the KUAL Hotfix still fail. Using MRPI to install KUAL was possible, however. (But I get a failed to mount root fs read-only error. Reboot recommend.) After a reboot, KUAL works. And KOReader, too! Many thanks again. PS: The USBNetLite Installer also fails the remount the rootfs in RO mode on my kindle. Last edited by pete330; 08-03-2024 at 04:00 PM. |

Installing the hf Hotfix via mrpi does work (there are no error messages).
So far so good! But is there something I should do or can do, so that UYK will work again? Without a working UYK, I guess I will always have resort to use the emergency.sh procedure, after updating the firmware. |

Hi all,
I updated my jailbroken PW4 FW 5.14.2 (with regular Hotfix applied) to 5.16.10.0.1. So far so good! KOReader, KUAL works with Marek's binaries. To block futur updates, is renameotabin enough? Thanks |

@NiLuJe,
Do I get it correctly that "GNU Awk Installer" is not supposed to work on kindle hf? I put it in the extensions (as usual from my backup), but when starting KUAL it freezes. So I hard restarted with power button and removed it. |

@NiLuJe
Got it, thanks! Also I noticed that (most probably) these logs I described here appear when I successfully sftp to Kindle with usbnetlite (5.16.21): https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=363853 How should I diagnose it? I can temporarily enable showlog & co. Anything else? (Strace, debug logging of usbnet, or maybe WinSCP side on PC?) |
