My NZ in-law's cat's catch baby rabbits, hedgehogs and other alien creatures and leave them on the wood box beside the back door.

I caught COVID for the first time in January while visiting NZ and spent 5 days in a motel in Fox Glacier isolating and suffering. The nurse at the clinic there told me that they didn't give it to tourists, so I had to do without even though it hit me hard.

Can I just say how much I hate mosquitos. There are so many at night in my bedroom. I'm going through acne patches (work great for bug bites) like crazy.
I would be able to get a screen for the window in the dormer. Technically I could also get one for my Velux window, but I would be only able to open it a teeny tine bit if I pulled the screen down, and with how warm my bedroom can get during the day that just isn't an option I need to be able to open it fully at night to get my room to cool down. Also my sister wants to insulate the roof better, which probably means doing it from the inside, which might be the right moment to replace the older Velux window with one with HR++ glass, there are Velux windows that hinge at the the top, for those it should be easy to get screens whilst still being able to open the window fully. However, there are only two sizes available so I have to see if that will fit in my situation. |

Attention fellow suburban neighbors: When you're having a bunch of cars over for a party, use your own driveway, and park your cars so more cars can fit in front of your own house BEFORE having them take up the rest of the street. And cars only have to park with enough space in front and back to be able to pull out, you don't all need to leave 4/5ths of a space in front and behind, so only half the number of cars can fit for several houses around. Tell all your friends, since apparently none of them give any thought to anyone else on their own. F$%$kin A$$40135

Somewhat similar story with a happy(??) ending. A co-worker got home around 17:00 after work and someone has parked in their one car garage. So they park in their driveway and close the garage door. They have dinner, watch some TV and go to bed. Around 03:00, someone knocks loudly on the front door. Open the door and there are two police officers and a person unknown to them. Evidently, the co-worker had stolen this person's car. After some discussion, the police officers determine that you did not give permission to park in your garage though the neighbour whom this person was visiting evidently said it was okay to do so—after all, you left the garage door open. After about 15 minutes of the police being entertained, the car parked in the driveway was backed onto the street, the garage door opened and the owner of the car hops into his car and backs out onto the street. At which point, the two police officers order them out of the car, ran them through a breathalyzer test and arrest them for drunk driving. Well, I did say it was a happy ending...

Tee hee! It's good that stupid drunks who trespass and then drive get what they deserve. Thankfully, the situation here is just some less-than-considerate street parking.

So, hubby and I took a short overnight trip to see the Titanic Exhibit at COSI in Columbus Ohio. That was fine, except for the crowds of out-of-control children swarming the place. Fortunately the Titanic area didn't have many little kids. We stayed overnight in a downtown hotel, had a nice meal at a German restaurant. I recommend the traveling Titanic exhibit, very sobering and interesting.
The next day we planned to drive home via a little town that was supposed to have lots of little antique shops, thrift type shops, etc. It's about an hour north-west of Columbus. So we make our way there, and the "lots of shops" turns out to be 2 that were actually open, and 4-6 that were not. The public rest-room was a porta-potty, sitting in the parking lot of one of the closed shops. It was 90+ degrees outside, no way I was getting in that porta-potty. The 2 shops that were open had signs saying no customer rest rooms. The one pizza shop didn't open until 5 p.m. We had even made a point of going on a Thursday since their web page said many of the shops are closed on Tuesday & Wednesday. We ended up using the rest rooms in the tiny public library, where a used book sale was happening. So I bought a book, since it seemed like the thing to do, and we left. So not really rant worthy, but a disappointment. |

Oh boy, the apartment building manager illegally entered my unit to ask about something that wasn't along the lines of "did you know the place is actively burning down and your bathroom is also flooding the entire building?"
I sent off a rather sternly-worded letter to the management company with a good reminder of exactly which clause of the Residential Tenancies Act forbids entry without written notice unless, y'know, the place is actively burning down and the bathroom is flooding the entire building. Around here, the rules on entry without notice must meet one of three conditions:
One management company got fined very heavily for entering an apartment claiming that it was abandoned when the tenant family was present. The onsite manager's statement that they had not seen the tenants enter or leave the apartment over 3 days and so assumed they had moved out without notice was not accepted by the court. |

I don't want to live in a world where "nuggs" in place of "nuggets" becomes the norm.
