Auto Populate Collections
As previously mentioned, Kobo doesnt read series data due to using old epub metadata standards and hopefully sometime int he future they move to the epub v3 metadata standards to read series information.
I am trying to have my "collection" column to be same as my "series" field. Is there a way I can somehow make collection field = series field automatically as part of a add/update workflow? |

hmm perhaps, Kobo does read the new v3 metadata now...saw this solution also, which is actually better as less duplicate meta data.https://www.reddit.com/r/Calibre/com...te_folders_to/

Kobo does read the series info, but you must set the metadata to Automatic management in Calibre and connect your Kobo again after transferring the books.

That's why you need to connect the ereader twice, because first Kobo needs to read the book information and create an entry in the database for the book, once you connect the ereader a second time, Calibre finds that entry and fill in the missing information. |

I worked it out. Its simple.
1. USe a plugin to access the driver. He the Extended Kobo Plugin 2. State you want to have collections, and use the "tags" column 3. ensure Automatic metadata is also checked 4. Then, click on preferences/metadata and remove or map tags you dont like. Also limit the # of tags per book 5. Clean up your current calibre tags (manually, search/replace, or delete, re-download) 6. Now when you connect your Kobo it will sync. |

I'd forgotten about NickelSeries. My recent searches had turned up SeriesMeta but that didn't do exactly what I was after.
I was looking for a metadata serring tool as I quite often transfer material to my Libra Colour via Google Drive, since my main computing device (ChromeBook) while it does run calibre does not support directly accessing the Kobo via USB (yes; I can and do share the Kobo FILE SYSTEM with the ChromeOS Linux environment, but that is just the file system, not the USB connection info). |
