Device: Kobo Aura H2O 1st gen, Kobo Aura One, Sony PRS-T2
Thanks a lot for your work, frostschutz!
I have a question: does a cloned sd work on another, similar device?
E.g., I have two Kobo Aura H2Os (1st gen), and one of them is broken. Can I clone with the working H2O its internal sd to the external sd and then try this sd on the other, broken H2O (of course insert in the internal sd drive)? Or is there a problem because of different serial numbers or something like that?

Yes, it should. And this is basically what all the threads asking for images to fix dead devices are about. The only difference is that the images were taken after a factory reset. They don't contain anything and will go through the setup when the card is installed. The only other thing, especially in your case, is the serial number will be the same on both devices. But, that is easily fixed. Personally, I would recommend doing a factory reset after restoring the image. That does seem to help in some cases, but, also helps know it can be done later when needed.

Of course, I can supply the image I have for the Aura H2O if you want.

Install this mod. (KoboRoot-MagicMemory.tgz » .kobo/KoboRoot.tgz)

I'm sure the readers of this forum know how to install mods, but I haven't found anything

You would extract the KoboRoot-MagicMemory.tgz file from the .zip archive, rename it to KoboRoot.tgz and copy it to the .kobo directory on your Kobo ereader. Once you have safely ejected your Kobo, the KoboRoot.tgz will automagically be installed.

For your purposes, you would probably want the Resize version of the archive since a Clara ( HD or 2E ) does not have an external µSD card slot.

Sorry but once again, the google fu seems to be running weak.

Kobo Libra 2

Hello, is this Mod dead?

I have 2 NIB Kobo Libra 2s that I am attempting to upgrade for my nieces.

I am running OSX 14.6.

I ran into the sbin issue and got around that.

I put the renamed KoboRoot.tgz file into the .kobo directory.

The device 'updates' and reboots when unmounted, except that it reboots fully into the UI

Plowing on ahead with removing the sd card and inserting the blank one, the process with the loading bar appears to start as soon as I interact with the UI, but not before, and then it hangs every time.

I have been able to use terminal commands as other users to clone the card directly but am unable to resize the FAT32 partition. The Kobo device does not boot from the cloned card.

Disk Utility does not have the permissions to write to the SD card from a .dmg, only terminal

Since you have the original working µSD cards, I would recommend using whatever utility you prefer for creating an image of the card ( BalenaEtcher seems to be popular ) and then copying that image to the new larger µSd card. DiskUtility should be able to resize the FAT32 partition once the copy operation is complete. Repeat for the second Libra 2.

Not sure about your issue with Disk Utility though you are mentioning dmg which sounds as if you are trying to modify the disk image not the physical disk. There are other MacOS partition managers but I haven't made use of one in several years.

When I mention the .dmg, I am referring to the 'restore from image' function of disk utility.

Balena worked a treat, and was already installed, I just didn't think of it. I am now able to boot from the cloned drive, but am unable to resize the partition with either disk utility or terminal, the former of which doesn't give me the option, and the latter of which tells me the file system doesn't support it
