I was under the impression that update was from Crowdstrike not Microsoft.

In a couple of items I read, Microsoft blamed the EU for forcing them to open up Ring 0/kernel level access for third party access which allowed Crowdstrike's flawed update to blue screen Windows systems. A political decision which resulted in technical issues.

Yes, but it was officially distributed by MS, so just because something comes from MS in no way means you can trust it.
