If you updated to a version that Kobo never released for the device, they could see. But, if you used a firmware version that Kobo did release for the, there is no way they could tell. And if you did a factory reset before they looked at it, there is absolutely no way they could tell.

Made soft reset (paperclip) on glo hd but it made a HARD reset

If your database is corrupted or your USB exposed partition has issues and you do a power on, pinhole reset or restart, it can trigger a factory reset. The pinhole reset is not a soft reset, it is a hard reset pretty much the same as a power on. If you hit the pinhole reset 5 times without allowing your Kobo to finish loading, this is considered a startup issue and will trigger the factory reset.
