I wouldn't have expected any issues with the executable and Windows Defender since no complaints once I used 7-Zip to extract the executable. OTOH, while I was playing with 7-Zip and creating zip archives with various options, I didn't see any errors either. However, an update (Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus) was installed while I was playing and now MSD does not have an issue with the downloaded .zip file.
Otherwise, I haven't seen any showstopper issues with the 2.3.0 beta after editing 3 books. |

No false alarms from MD or Malwarebytes, I unzipped it with WinRAR. I don't download with browsers, I use Free Download Manager… all browsers are too flaky. BR |

Agreed not a bug, but the more I think about it, not optimal either.
I have now changed the TOC Editor, the MetaData Editor, and the Spellcheck Editor to open the first time with their top lines highlighted/selected. Took a bit of work because they all used different combinations of QTreeView and Models meaning I had to develop a different approach for each one. I have now pushes these changes to master so they will appear in the next release. Thanks Quote:

Hi,
I loaded the beta on my main production machine (Win10pro with all updates loaded). I've been able to play with the package for about two hours and have followed my normal workflow without encountering any problems. I will continue use this build in the production environment until either a serious problem surfaces or the beta is replaced my its official release. Your team is truly amazing and, as always, much appreciated. |

Is there any source around for Linux users yet? New dependencies? I'll be happy to test.

There's no source download, but you can always clone the Sigil GitHub repository locally and build from the latest master branch. The new Qt minimum is 6.4. Qt needs to be built with ICU support, but pretty much all repository versions of Qt6.4+ already are.
EDIT: You can download a zip of the current source from GitHub as well. The link for that can be found under the green "Code" combo button. Last edited by DiapDealer; 07-10-2024 at 05:56 PM. |

The new Qt minimum for Sigil is 6.4. It appears that your distro is only supplying 6.2

I loaded the beta on my Windows 10 Pro laptop and it works perfectly well after editing about 20 epubs.
There was one silent crash, but it is a bug that goes back a while, nothing specific to this beta. I first encountered it six months to a year ago. I haven't reported it because it is randomly triggered and I cannot pin down the exact process that set it off. I reckon that it is triggered only when I open an epub with an existing cover, change the cover and then delete unused media files. I don't remember if I imported the new cover file before changing the cover or if I changed the cover using an external file. It happens maybe about 1 in 500 invocations. When I have that specific crash, I quit without saving and then try to retrace the steps that led to it. Each time, I have never been able to reproduce it. |

Ubuntu/Debian's commitment to providing only old software (they prefer to call it "stable") is why I moved to a rolling distro long ago. I believe Qt has an online installer for Linux that can be used to install newer versions, but I have no experience with it. |
