Look, I appreciate that you think that you're helping, but you're really not. Nothing that you've said is more than peripherally relevant. The problem with graphics is fundamental limitations of e-ink screens, and nothing to do with file formats or contents. Those screens are excellent for reading text, but they do have limitations. They are not, and cannot yet be, a perfect substitute for printed books.

And I'm not trying to help you, I'm just telling you what at least Kepub format can do with Kobo, ymmv. it may be useful for others. |

I usually look at maps etc. on my tablet or laptop, while reading the book itself on my Kobo. But then I read mostly fiction, where any kind of images are few and far between. I'm certainly not going to print them out - far too much bother and I don't want the papers littering my apartment.
As to buying paper books, not if I can help it. But as I said, I read very little nonfiction, so usually have no need to. I agree that image viewing is far from a good experience on eink. Especially with older editions (I have lots of ebooks bought a decade or so ago) where no version with good resolution can be found anywhere. Last edited by Sirtel; 07-05-2024 at 10:39 AM. |

Ooh, nice trick! I think I'll do similar by grabbing the image file from the ebook and sending it to my iPhone for quick reference.

When I've had a single map I've wanted to refer to throughout a book, I have replaced the book cover with the map. A quick sleep shows the map, then wake to keep reading.

I didn’t know about that patch, but even without it, the dots on the navigation bar are very helpful. The Kobo can remember up to three locations per session, so the OP should be able to easily flip between two different pages and still get back to their current page. |

I have just downloaded "The Railway Children" from Standard Ebooks
https://standardebooks.org/ebooks/e-...ilway-children and they said to get kepub not epub - so I did. But what difference has it made? What might I look out for? Pressing and holding a page turning button does not give fast skimming the pages. Should it? Anything else you can draw my attention to would be appreciated. |

Not just a little. They use code that they don't need to use. They make it way over the top. They use the latest and greatest and mostly incompatible ePub code they can. They just jump the shark with their eBooks.

e-nesbit_the-railway-children.kepub.epub I opened it with calibre, which says EPUB. What is going on? The press and hold has never worked, though the user guide says it should. |

To work around this, take your downloaded file, remove the .epub from the filename so it becomes 'e-nesbit_the-railway-children.kepub' and then import it. You will also need to install the KePub Metadata Reader to read the metadata from the file before importing it. When you send the .kepub to your Kobo, calibre will automagically add the .epub to the end of the extension. For the most part, a kepub is simply an ePub with a mass of spans added used by the webkit based renderer on your Kobo for faster location. Last edited by DNSB; 07-14-2024 at 03:05 AM. |
