I have to retract my comment that said it was working on the Libra Colour. It didn't happen yesterday when I installed it and read for an hour, but today when I started to read it started to happen.

I ended up doing as Lys said and going to the home page then going back into the book and it stopped doing it.

Same here. I'm still getting the flashing when I look up a word, but going to the home screen will make it stop doing so, as mentioned

I think Sherman was right in that it had nothing to do with his code, and was merely a more obvious side effect of a different bug in the firmware as a whole that seems to be patched out now.
FWIW, I am running 22861 on the color and am 100% getting flashing in the header (clock flashes every minute).

Same -- device was updated (automatically during setup) before I installed NC.

Okay for posterity I have managed to track down a very reliable trigger for the flashing redraw in the header: the highlight action. Opening a book and highlighting some text (even if you immediately undo it) seems reliably to trigger the flashing redraw, even on the latest firmware. Exiting the book and reloading it will make the flashing stop.
That being said, I'm also seeing the flashing happen on the center of the header, where the chapter progress is displayed, so I am still very certain that there's nothing in the code of nickelclock that causes or could prevent this, but in case anyone wants to forcefully trigger it for testing purposes highlighting is very consistent. I think any action that displays one of the modal menus (where you can add a highlight, or else search a word in the dictionary, etc) will do this.

Quick question -- I'm following the directions for this on the github page and after extracting the file on my Mac desktop there's no KoboRoot.tgz in the extracted file (not even when I unhide files) to copy to the .kobo folder. I do have a KoboRoot.tgz in another directory from NickelMenu.

After extraction I get a KoboRoot folder and two subfolders "usr" and "mnt". These are the instal steps on github:

1. Download the NickelClock-<version>.zip file from the latest release. Extract the KoboRoot.tgz file from the downloaded file (note: Mac OS X may extract this by default on download).
2. Copy KoboRoot.tgz to the .kobo directory on your Kobo, and disconnect it from your computer. The Kobo will reboot automatically.

What am I missing?

???

The only file in your downloaded zip should be the KoboRoot.tgz.

I got to the bottom of it -- I used a separate unzip app instead of the built-in unarchiver that is default for mac. Oddly the default didn't extract anything but a manual run gave me the results I mentioned above.

It's sorted out and working wonderfully. Thank you.

Hi, could you please share the app and how to use it? I'm having the same problem with unzipping the file on my Macbook and get "KoboRoot".

If you are downloading the file with Safari, it could be automatically unzipping the file for you. To prevent this, go to Preferences => General and remove the checkmark from Open "safe" files after downloading.

Yup, this is the answer and once that's done unzip and the only file you see is the tgz file and that's what you load in the correct directory, reboot and it will begin working. You can modify the config file, as well, so that items are placed where you like. I do notice that bookmarking hides my time some of the time, but it seems to be random -- wished it didn't do that but it's better than not having it displayed at all while in a book.

Thanks for this
Thanks for your great advice.
- It all works now on my Kobo Sage
- Just checked in Windows Explorer file 'settings.ini' as 'Read only' after finished to edit it

Question NickelClock keeps crashing

I had 3 crash in 2 months with version 0.3.2. I had to reinstall the NickClock (previous settings are lost).
I use kobo Touch with sw 4.38.21908 (none other mods). I append log file.
Some one can help me to undestand the problem?
