I'm bumping this thread because I feel like it does not get enough (read: hardly any) love. Here's some reccomendations:
The beautifully formatted Letters of Jane Austen Quote:
A House to Let with contributions from Charles Dickens, Wilkie Collins, Elizabeth Gaskell and Adelaide Anne Procter. Quote:

I've enjoyed the books of essays written by A. G. Gardiner, Lark Rise to Candleford by Flora Thompson, The Dream of Gerontius by J. H. Newman, and books by Clarence Day.
My children have also enjoyed a number of the books produced by GrannyGrump. |

I'd like to recommend Willa Cather's A Lost Lady - https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32255
I've read a good bit of Cather, and One of Ours is one of my favorite novels of the period. But this was a new read to me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. From Goodreads: Quote:

I need to give this some more thought, but in the meantime I'll tout the same member's, pynch's, wonderful and meticulous upload of James Joyce.

And while on the topic, I'd like to recommend Leonard Woolf's wonderful five-volume memoir. Each volume is short so it's not nearly the commitment of Virginia's and they're models of clarity and insight. |

I’m going to have to browse the MR library. I like to mix in a classic from time to time, and it’s about time.

Hi, this seems a good place to pass on some recommendations. I
Deleted After putting this in I noticed belatedly that it isn’t in the Mobile Library. I’ll follow the rule in the future. Last edited by fantasyfan; 06-16-2024 at 08:56 AM. |
