Thanks!

Two questions:

1. What format should the numeric column be? Is integer just 0 to 255 or is there a long form integer? (I think I answered that by entering a number greater than 255 so it's a long form integer.)

2. There is a second column for "calculation method." Where are the specifications for that. I could give the page numbers for each of the chapters in the TOC, which would constrain the calculation. Is there a way to do that?

There is no way to give separate page numbers to chapters. You put in the page number for the entire book and it uses that.

1. Create a custom numeric column
2 Preferences > Plugin
3. Search for Kindle and select Kindle 2/3/4/Touch/PaperWhite /Voyage Device Interface (1.0.0)
4. Click Customize plugin
5. Check "Send page number information when sending books"
6. Under that select accurate
7. Under "Custom column name to retrieve page counts from" put in the name of the column you created
8. Check "Overwrite existing apnx on device"
9. Click OK
10. Click Apply
11. Click Close

Now, if you do not put in a page number in the custom column, Ca;ibre will still create a page number file for your eBook.

P.S. KF8 is the proper name for AZW3.
Thanks this helped, did a custom page count for my PW4 and now each page turn = 1 page in a book.

Does this plugin work with Calibre 7? If not, can someone who know who to code for calibre please fix this as you cannot get a page number file generated for the Scribe and this plugin would help that. Thanks.

Here is the updated version of APNX Generator for Calibre 7.x.
Changes:
- Python 2 to Python 3 migration
- APNX file is generated to folder of the book
- Command line interface

Version updated to 1.3.0

Command line interface usage help:
calibre-debug -r "APNX Generator"

Note that this plugin is only needed if you want to sideload books to Kindle without Calibre i.e. copy manually the MOBI and APNX files to Kindle over USB.
Attached Files
File Type: zip APNX Generator.zip (14.6 KB, 33 views)

What does this plugin do that calibre won't do? Calibre can generate APNX files for your KF8 eBook.

Calibre normaly does that when you use "Send to Device" + Kindle device.
IIRC this plugin originated when people wanted to have page count when using Kindle apps / when using "Save to disk" to transfer book into Android tablets and similar scenarios.

My usecase: Im storing the calibre libraby on a headless NAS runninf Ubuntu server. However with the latest samba updates in summer complelty broke the samba usage from Windows Calibre (due to sqlite DB). It worked over 10 years. So now I use Calibre from command line, and also from remote X11. Due to this I can only transfer the APNX and MOBI fully manually to my Kindle to have page numbers. So Ive updated this plugin after some googling about Python language and Calibre dev (plugin was not working from Calibre 5x, so it has pretty low usage).
