I'm simply not going to debate "who generates the most co2" as that's like saying "who's helping plants the most".

All people breathe out CO2. All land animals do. We give out co2, the plants take that and breathe out oxygen.

I'm more worried about real pollutants.

While I live alone and there's no one to nag me for leaving the lid open, I always keep it closed. My blind cat would fall in otherwise (he likes to climb on the toilet to indicate he wants to drink, whereupon I must offer him water from a cup. Yes, of course there are drinking bowls in the apartment - two of them and I change the water daily or even twice a day. No, he can't be bothered to drink from a bowl when I'm there to personally serve him).
