Been waiting and getting impatient.

I am also waiting to purchase the next 13.3" from Onyx.
Preferably a Carta 1300 screen. A 13.3" color might work, but I don't like that more light needs to be shined on a Kaleido-3 device in order to acceptably/properly see the screen. |

I'm impressed with the Carta 1300. I wouldn't buy any B/W model that wasn't that. Unless something newer is coming?

I see that Onyx has announced a new 13.3" device w/Carta 1300:
Boox Max Note: https://shop.boox.com/products/notemax ... although I will pass as it does not have a front light, which is a must for me. |

Having bought the Go 10.3 I'm happy the new model doesn't have a frontlight. However, even though a 13" inch reader with 300PPI has been my dream device I think I'll wait for reviews before buying one.
It looks close to ideal for me, except that it lacks an SD card slot and the battery is rather small. I'm worried that the BSR in combination with the high resolution of the screen will result in very rapid battery drain. |

I have a hard time understanding why BSR exists. The non-BSR devices already have enough refresh modes to get good performance with reasonable levels of ghosting, and BSR is not good enough for you to, say, watch videos at 30 FPS or anything remotely like that. BSR seems kind of pointless to me. Is it really worth sacrificing all the battery-life benefits of e-paper for a few extra FPS when scrolling through a website? I don't think so. BSR seems like more of a crutch to make Kaleido panels' ghosting performance look semi decent than something that standard BW panels actually need.

My (uninformed) take on this is that BSR came in with the Mira line of HDMI displays. It was necessary as processing incoming raw video is quite different from updating an Eink display based on specific graphic areas. BSR was repurposed to allow scrolling and video on Android devices.
I'm a 6" Luddite. I don't need need scrolling or video so I don't need BSR. |

I agree that it might not be necessary on a bigger screen. There is no need for the same amount of scrolling navigation. |

Interesting that this new 13.3" is in the Note series and not the Tab series.

It does share the keyboard of the Tab series, though. And nothing with the Note series. So that's the logical place to put it! |
