Calibre not detecting Xiaomi Moaan inkPalm 5 mini

I'm running the latest Calibre on Fedora 40. The InkPalm mini is connected in USB MTP mode. It does get auto mounted by the files system but so I dismount it immediately but Calibre still doesn't recognise it.

The output from the Device Detection debug is:

The InkPalm mini is being detected (EPD105) but for some reason it is not connecting.

Any help much appreciated.

IIRC, on Linux, only one application can have an MTP device open. Is your file manager grabbing it?

I pause (Stop, not kill) the gvfs-mtp-volume-monitor BEFORE connecting, because while you can stop the filemanager in Cinnamon grabbing it, that setting is ignored on Linux Mint with caja.

Also some Android gadgets let Calibre connect after you "un mount" on desktop and some don't re-connect withou cable removed and re-inserted.

So I "stop" the process in System Monitor GUI that's a right click in fron of window list. Scroll down and rightclick on the process.
"Continue" it after eject and cable disconnect.
Killing it doesn't work as it auto respawns like monsters in a game.

True on MacOS too. Windows "cheats" by having only a single process connect that then simulates a file interface that multiplexes I/O. They developed it as an extension to PTP to manage DRM encumbered files for the Zune. Android adopted it at 4.0
