Hi everybody
How to speed the book opening time on my non-touch Kindle version 4.1.4?
The "Processing...." take too long

What format are the books? If epub/mobi/azw3, keeping only a few books on the Kindle (instead of hundreds, for example) will speed things up somewhat. If it's PDF, you really need something newer and more modern.

Thanks. This is a mobi book, I was not adding any new books to my Kindle before the problem occurred.I will try free some memory

I'm thinking about replacing the battery in my old Kindle 4BNT.

It looks pretty straightforward in this video, except the hair dryer part concerns me. Is that really necessary?

Any other thoughts or tips on how easy or difficult this replacement is? I'm afraid of borking my Kindle which still holds a charge, though not for very long.

Oh geez. Thank you for the guide. It is more daunting than the video. I am afraid to attempt this now since the battery still holds a charge, just not for very long.

Sorry for spooking you even more, but your current battery is on the verge of becoming a spicy pillow (it will swell). This in turn might damage the screen or make itself catch fire.

So it is highly recommended to take it out and recycle at a local recycling point. I know many outlets accept batteries for recycling (like Staples in the US).

Thanks. I'm going to see what happens at Amazon's press announcement on the 26th. If it sounds like K4BNT will continue to be able to download books over WiFi, I will attempt the battery replacement. Otherwise I will recycle it as it will have no use anymore

I just registered a Kindle 4th Gen (4.1.3). It shows up listed on my account, but I can't figure out how to download any of my books. "Shop in Kindle Store" is no longer a thing but I knew that one.
So far, I've tried
1. Sync & check for items
2. View archived items

So I've downloaded the Software Update from Amazon to
upgrade to 4.1.4 but I haven't done the actual upgrade yet.

Is there anything I need to prepare for before the upgrade?

You go to Amazon on a real Web browser and find the Content & Devices / Books / Library page and use the drop down for Download and pick the ereader and then the Browser saves the file. The ereader isn't involved in that.

Amazon has already said they WiFi Kindles will still be able to download eBooks. So that's not a problem. It's only the non-WiFi Kindles that won't download from Amazon.

Actually, what Amazon said is "supported Kindle devices with WiFi capability" will be able to continue downloading ebooks.

If all WiFi Kindles will be able to download books, why did they add the word "supported"?

Given how old K4BNT is, I'm concerned it's not going to be one of the "supported" Kindles in the near future.
