Sharing books by email: GMX Blocking
Not sure if this is the right section, but: How are you guys not getting blocked by GMX every day???
I have a new kindle scribe, I use epub format for everything because its the most editable and works/looks good on my kindle, and I use the sharing books by email function to get everything to my @kindle.com email address. I've been using GMX to do this for about a week now to get my entire library onto the kindle because all the guide posts I can find indicate this is the easiest way to do this. I cannot use a USB cord to get books onto my kindle, because I would have to convert literally everything in my 1500+ book library to azw3 format. Amazon apparently only allows azw3 format for usb transfers, and epub format for the send-to-kindle transfer method. I cannot find a post anywhere where someone also indicates they are being blocked incessantly by GMX--every post I find on here is about getting the GMX email sharing thing to work in the first place, like needing to check the iPOP button thingy in GMX settings or add the GMX email to your Amazon account as an authorized sender.
Am I doing something wrong? Do I have a library that is actually exponentially larger than anyone else on the planet who uses calibre? Should I have this thing set to 10 minutes instead of 5 minutes (301 seconds)? I don't understand how I can be emailing myself, using calibre, to my own kindle, with a nice long interval in between emails so as not to screw anyone, and am somehow still getting myself blocked. I also can't figure out how to make the email sending thing work with gmail or aol or something instead of GMX, so I'm effectively out of options and stuck with half a library on my kindle until I can figure this out. |

It may be a red herring, but I just received a notice from my ISP:

For bulk transfers, you might want to consider doing them locally using a USB connection unless you need to sync multiple devices.
One acquaintance of mine is now doing that since the email accounts he uses are now causing issues if he sends more than 10 messages with non-image attachments in a day. He's not sure what the limit on sending images as attachments is but it is supposed to be around 50 per day. |

It is not GMX that Amazon is blocking it is you IP Address. Your problem is you are hitting the unpublished limit that Amazon will allow for transfers to personal documents.
In a 2-4 weeks the block will be removed. To test log into GMX and send a ebook to your kindle as an attachment, if it goes through then we know the problem with you IP address, that is why new email address are being blocked. bernie Quote:

i was under the impression that plenty of other people who use calibre use epub files, which can be used on multiple devices, and aren't having this issue of being blocked. i don't ever want to use azw3, which works fine on my new kindle scribe but is completely incompatible with my old tablet that i still use. azw3 is an amazon-specific kindle only file format that blows. epubs are very versatile, highly editable, and work on most devices. my question is: how are other people using the "sharing via email" function of calibre via a GMX account to send epubs to their devices and NOT getting blocked? there's a thousand posts out there of people troubleshooting issues together with getting the GMX username/password set up properly & sending files via calibre as intended, and most of them eventually have succeded and thanked someone for their help. i know there's people out there doing the same thing i am, i just can't figure out why i'm being blocked or find any posts of other people running into this. |

Is there some other device maker that automatically forwards attachments to the device like Amazon does?
I can email a book to almost any person, but that person then must move the book to their device (side load or SDcard). |

@OP: Just FYI sending to kindle converts your books to azw3 anyway, the conversion is just inferior to the one you get in calibre. There are lots of EPUB files which will work fine if you convert to azw3 in calibre and send the azw3 to your kindle but which wont work when converted by amazon.
@theducks: PocketBook also allows email delivery of books to your device. |

If you don't want to devote the disk space required to convert your entire library to azw3, you can set calibre to send epub to your tablet and azw3 converted on the fly to your Scribe and then delete them from your computer. Select all books, right click, delete book, remove files of a specific format from selected books, click on azw3 and then ok.
I suspect the people not being blocked are not hitting GMX's limitations to prevent their accounts from being used for spamming. They are also most likely blocking by your IP address so setting up a new account from the same IP address will not help. Note that you may also want to send your ebooks using USB in batches of 200-250 and allow your Scribe to import them before sending the next batch. @HarryT had a thread on copying his largish library to his new Oasis a while back. It's available at Tips for loading a large library onto a KO2. |

solved!
thank you all for your help!
@kovid - i did not realize that emailing to the kindle address automatically converts epub files to azw3! @DNSB - i am big dumb. more googling helped me find the section in preferences -> behavior & preferences -> plugins -> device interface where i can have different formats set up to send to different devices. it now makes a great deal more sense why you can have multiple formats of a book in your library at one time. lol i had no idea this was in here?? calibre is so huge i keep finding something new to customize even after weeks of poking at it. i thought i'd have to go in and manually change the export format type back and forth every time i switch between sending things to my kindle v.s. my tablet since the tablet can't do anything with an azw3 file. i'm not concerned with space since i have several TBs on this computer...it was more an issue with my own computer competency/remembering to switch between formats every time! i am now set up to usb transfer converted azw3 files to my kindle, and the original epub files to my tablet. god bless calibre customization options. sidenote: GMX granted me access to my account again today and apologized for the inconvienence and said they're working to "resolve the issue". i have no idea what this means, if they were flagging me for spamming. you'd think they'd be more "stop doing that" about it all. |

Good to hear that you have a working setup again. calibre is a bit of a Swiss army knife and I'm not even sure if Kovid Goyal and Charles Haley who seem to be the most active in current calibre development remember every nook and cranny of the software.
GMX probably does not want to admit that their spam blocking was giving way too many false positives. |
