I bought this device because of the "Super Refresh Technology" not because of the colour.

A desktop monitor unlike a portable reading device is used in a fixed environment which can be controlled. Ideally the daylight should be controlled with a blind or curtain and the desk at right angles to the window. A 23″ screen is absolutely not a portable device. |

Wrong - this is always the case and why this also applies to your devices, you have provided this reason below

I've decades of experience planning offices and setting up computers. Certainly Kaleido 3 23″ monitor might have been worth considering for text only applications 10 years go, though crazy expensive. Now there are good monitor solutions that size. I've older screens that don't come close to the quality of my LG which is like working on paper. The Kaleido 3 is useless for photo editing, and abysmal for rapid scrolling, web pages, video or games. Only good for text applications, comics and paginated newspapers/magazines, text books and about x8 the price of a decent higher resolution zero glare 4K screen. Feel free to pop in if you are transiting Shannon and have half a day spare. Edit: You chopped off the important bit and misunderstand what I wrote about proper monitor use. Quote:
I'd absolutely use mono eink for any portable reading device. I'd only consider "colour" eink as an additional luxury product if I read a lot of comics. Last edited by Quoth; 08-02-2023 at 06:00 AM. |

The difference is that you're talking about a monitor and I'm talking about the principle of a transmitted-light device vs. a reflected-light device

In my particular case, for regular reading with the same reading programs I use on my non-colour e-readers (AlReader X and KOReader) I haven't noticed a difference that makes me long for a non-colour device. But this is a matter of personal taste. |

There are several great options for non-Kindle devices in the 7-9 inch range that support epubs and have excellent light adjustment features. Some popular choices include the Kobo Clara HD, the PocketBook Touch HD 3, and the Boox Nova 3 Color.

Kobo Clara HD and Pocketbook Touch HD 3 are 6'', not 7-9''.
