Authentication: basic/digest? Huh??? Koreader
I've managed to get Koreader to pull books from Calinre via OPDS catalogue.
But then I noticed on this page: "If Calibre is set to require authentication, it must use "basic" authentication, not "digest" authentication. Digest authentication is the default for unencrypted communications, but KOReader doesn't support digest authentication. See issue #3953. Warning: Unencrypted basic authentication is insecure. Anyone who can inspect your network traffic will be able to see your password. Only use basic authentication with SSL or when it's only run on a completely-trusted network without being exposed to the Internet." Questions: 1. If I am only running Koreader and Calibre on my local network, do I even have to worry about this? 2. In what circs do I have to deal with this? 3. How do I deal with this? 4. Wht is mean t by "your password"? Your password for what? - PC? - Koreader? - Calibre? - Your grandma's cookie jar? |

Use a home VPN server to access ANYTHING when in a public place (such as college, hotel, cafe, library.
We used our Firewall/router settings to make it appear on port 80 so no-one would block it. |

The majority of the local ISPs deny inbound connections unless you are willing to pay for their business service. Basically, if you are getting a dynamic IP, you can forget any inbound connections.
