Backup/Restore/Upgrade SD Card Based Devices
Here you will find a guide of sorts for working with devices that have removable memory.
This guide will cover making backup images, restoring images, and expanding partitions (upgrading sd cards). -----> Assumptions & Warnings - have a means of plugging SD Card into a computer - a windows computer -- can add a guide for other platforms if requested - I am not responsible for any outcomes -- positive or negative, thats on you -----> Routes I have a known good SD Card and want to upgrade/expand/backup/repair... - Backup, Restore to new SD Card, and finally Expand if new SD Card is larger I DONT have a known good SD Card and want to upgrade/expand/backup/repair... - you will first need to download an SD Card Image Firmware for your device Then - Restore and maybe Expand if new SD Card is larger -- you may also need to Expand if you downloaded a 'slim' firmware -----> Making a Backup Image CloneDisk http://reboot.pro/files/file/24-clonedisk/ Direct Download Link http://reboot.pro/index.php?app=down...nload&id=14271 --> Process 1. Download and unzip the above tool into a new project folder 2. Run clonedisk.exe 3. Plug in target device - Click Tools -> Refresh Drives - take note of which new Disk number shows up in CloneDisk -- Disk 3 in the case of backup.jpg attached 4. Click Backup to Image from the right hand menu 5. Select RAW Format - Click Ok and select a location to save the img file - Click Yes to Overwrite (app quirk) 6. Wait... 7. Profit! - you now have a backup image of your removable memory -- store this img file someplace safe as its your rescue disk -----> Restore a Backup Image CloneDisk http://reboot.pro/files/file/24-clonedisk/ Direct Download Link http://reboot.pro/index.php?app=down...nload&id=14271 --> Process 1. Download and unzip the above tool into a new project folder 2. Run clonedisk.exe 3. Plug in target device - Click Tools -> Refresh Drives - take note of which new Disk number shows up in CloneDisk -- Disk 3 in the case of restore.jpg attached 4. Click Restore from Image from the right hand menu 5. Select RAW Format - Click Ok and select an img file to restore to the removable memory -- Confirm you have the correct drive selected! - Click Yes to Overwrite 6. Wait... 7. Profit! - you now have restored an image back to your removable memory -- from here you may need to expand the storage partition -----> Expand a Parition (FAT32, NTFS...) IM-Magic Partition Resizer Portable https://www.resize-c.com/ Direct Download Link https://download.resize-c.com/resizer-free-portable.zip --> Process 1. Download and unzip the above tool into a new project folder 2. Run either x86 or x64 version of dm.resizer.exe 3. Plug in target device - take note of which new Disk number shows up in Partition Resizer -- Disk 3 in the case of expand.jpg attached 4. On this Disk find the storage partition -- KOBOeReader in the case of expand.jpg attached - Right Click the partition then Click Resize/Move Partition 5. In the new window, Click and Drag the right hand edge of the partition to expand it to the desired size - once set Click Ok 6. Click the big Apply button - Click Ok to commit changes - assuming all is good click Ok again to confirm success 7. Profit! - thats it you have now successfully 'downloaded' more storage |
