I've finished 4 Harry Hole books and give them pretty high marks so far. Plenty of well-done twists (some probably say too many) and Harry walks a tightrope in both his personal and professional life, maintaining high levels of tension.
There are obvious similarities to Rebus though I can't picture Harry surviving to retirement age as Rebus has. Rankin breathed new life into that series by promoting Clarke to a main character and giving her some of the most interesting story lines - I'm kind of hoping Nesbo does something similar to broaden the scope of Harry's world... |

That author must have flunked out of "Choosing main character names 101" in college.

More like 'olè' with an 'H' in the front, in Danish anyway. But hey, we were the ones learning the Norwegians to speak proper in the first place. And since they suck at playing football (the right type), we were kind enough to give them some oil.
(Perhaps some teasing in the above :-) ) |

Yes, the verbal enunciation is very different from the spelling in the original language. A good example is the author’s name, Jo Nesbo, which is pronounced “yoo nesbah” from what I’ve gathered in interviews online. |

Yes, indeed. His name isn’t “Nesbo”, it’s “Nesbø”. “O” and “Ø” are different letters of the Norwegian alphabet, with the latter being pronounced something like “er” or a short “a”.

I have two rather different favorites:
Anthony Trollope, The Barsetshire Novels Julia Keller, Bell Elkins series P.S. I just put on my to-read list The Pursuit of Love from #106 above. |

Only thing wrong with Donna Leon's Brunetti books is she can't write them faster than I can read them.
