My dictionary works just fine as it is on my Kindle 3. If it doesn't wok on your Kindle, chances are that the books that you tried it with, weren't encoded as Swedish languages books or that your Kindle firmware doesn't support languages other than the usual EFIGS languages.
Trying to change the dictionary language with Calibre is pointless because Calibre cannot change the dictionary input language.
You may want to use Java Mobi Metadata Editor instead to make sure that your books are properly encoded.

Yes, T. Molen, this is what I'm trying to do, to look up a selected word.
But maybe Doitsu has identified the reason for the dictionary not working as I'd hoped: the Swedish book I'm reading, Den allvarsamma leken, was installed when the Calibre preferences were set to English; the dictionary however was installed afterwards, when I'd changed the Preferences to Swedish.
I'll remove the book and install it again....

I'm clueless about this kind of thing!

Just double-click the MobiMetaEditorV0.14.jar file. Alternatively, change the Calibre GUI to Swedish add your book and do a mobi to mobi conversion.
