Replacement Stylus

Has anyone found a source for the stylus for either the 600 or 900? They are the same diameter. There was a thread a while back that came to the conclusion that Sony was not going to sell replacements.

The PRS-600 stylus is part number A-1732-038-A at

https://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ec.../web/index.jsp.

It shows as out-of-stock and a price of $38.40. I guess you could call to see about backorder availability. At that price, you might as well get a dozen.

I just broke the plastic piece off of the metal part of the metal shaft. I've been looking everywhere for a replacement stylus. I ended up calling Sony and the replacement part was on backorder as of April 24, 2011. She said it was 3-4 weeks for both the pink and silver stylus. She quotes me $62 for the stylus! The only way I can make sense of why it's so expensive is that it's made out of high grade NASA-made plastic and adamantium (I say this sarcastically).

Hopefully somebody knows of a good alternative than paying for the high price of these Sony styluses.

I did a search for some other places to get a replacement stylus:

Partstore.com - $18.19
http://www.partstore.com/Model/Sony/Sony/PRS600.aspx

Serviceplus.com - $14.99
https://www.servicesplus.sel.sony.co...A1732038A.aspx

Hope this helps.

The part number is exactly what Ken 401 said: A-1732-038-A

I just had the exact same thing happen to me. On the one hand, nice of Sony to make their products last a few years. On the other hand, did those buggers really have to make one small but vital part of it out of cheap plastic that would snap just as the warranty was over? </rant>

Anyhow, the sites you mentioned that sell replacement parts unfortunately do not ship outside the US. Does anyone know where to find a good-fitting replacement stylus for the PRS-600, that's shippable to Europe?

Just got these for my 350.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/390325187625...84.m1439.l2649

Much better than the supplied stylus and you get three of them for under $6. They have metal shafts.

This may or may not work. They work well for the x50 series, but im not sure about the 500 or 900.

I've never seen the stylus for the 600 or 900. Are they the same as for the x50 readers?

Whoops, I guess I misread the topic. I have no idea if they are the same.
If someone can post up a picture of the 900 stylus alongside a millimeter scale, Ill tell you if the dimmensions are the same.

The 900 stylus is not the same. It was on the opposite corner (left side of the reader). The 900 is a larger diameter and longer. My 950 stylus is loose in the 900 slot and would likely fall out and get lost. In the past I used a cheap Nintendo DS stylus with my 900.

Wow, that's amazing work you did there! Too bad it's not for the 600 series; anyone know the dimensions of those? Are they different from the 350 / 950 series?
