How NOT to win customers

At the risk of beating a dead horse, would anyone care to explain this insane pricing on a book that has been out for two years?:

http://www.amazon.com/Abbeville-eboo...7571285&sr=1-1

I see no rational reason for this.

Note: Not only the Kindle price, but the percentage increase over paperback and hardcover prices.

Talk to the publisher. Note that Amazon has *some* control over what they charge for Kindle ebooks, but they've not had complet control. However, if the publisher is part of the MacMillan, Hachette or Harper-Collins groups, that semblance of control is about to disappear completely.

Although the pricing has been discussed here and on other boards ad naseum due to the MacMillan debacle, this example still defies any sane reasoning. I'm not sure who the parent (publishing) company is (not really interested enough to pursue it) but this is ridiculous, even for MacMillan.

It's published by Unbridled Books, a small independent publishing house. They claim to focus on "works of rich literary quality that appeal to a broad audience," and they've just recently had their fifth anniversary.

They're a small enough publisher that they might be receptive to polite letters about ebook pricing, formatting and even DRM. They're probably patterning themselves after the big publishing houses because they don't realize there are other options. (I will not be writing to them to ask if they'll drop the price of their kindlebooks to match the paperback. But if someone likes that kind of activism, this would be the sort of publisher who might be willing to listen.)

And that further underscores my point. I can only conclude that Amazon has set the ridiculous price.

If they are "patterning themselves after the big publishing houses" as you state, the question of pricing discrepancy still remains. Not only is there quite a discrepancy within Amazon, but a big difference between that of Sony vs. Amazon. The issue must be with the retailers. (?)

Amazon has anecdotally been receptive to ebook price queries and adjusted them. it's worth an email
