Cybook Firmware on the Cooler?
Greetings,
Does anyone know if the Cybook Gen3 firmware will run on the Cool-er Reader or vice versa? The recent Cybooks and the Cool-ers are both Netronix EB-600s correct? Or are there significant architectual differences/proprietary blocks that would keep one from swapping firmware? |

No it's not (officially) possible nor the reverse (ie install the netronix soft on the Cybook)

there are some differences in the Cybook hardware. Seems that there are more components in Cybook rather than in Cool-ER/Netronix/Shinebook. It is possible to load the Shinebook firmware in the Cool-ER and viceversa, but the Cybook is different. Anyway, I suppose that the problem is not only in the hardware, but in the loader firmware. Right the 301+ firmware seems a LOT better
Ive downloaded both but p301 is a bin file whilst the cool-er is loads of smaller files how does one get the restore going? Many thanks in advance |

I've been thinking about putting the Booq firmware on my reader at some point in the future. May try out the pocketbook one too - Let us know if it's any good.
The pocketbook instructions here may help. |

Thanks for the info. .. yep seen it
If I try the pocketbook bin file, while using the cool-er upgrade process ... it bricks the device (can be recovered though) Bascially I think to get the pb301+ firmare on I need the files "unpacked" since thats what the cool-er upgrade is expecting OR I need a different way of applying the bin file |

How do you managed to brick your device by using the PB bin file ?
It's impossible to install the PB firmware directly on any EB100/EB600 device without some internal knownledge of the device. PocketBook use their own firmware upgrade process like do Bookeen and they are NOT compatible with Netronix updates. (in fact all three are incompatibles between them) and you can't use one of the update on another branded device. If you managed to brick your device, there is only way -> Customer service, and be prepared to need to pay to recover it, I doubt they will be happy to see people trying to hack their device with another firmware. |

bricking easy
1) put the pocketbook bin file on an sd card 2) press enter / 3rd button down and reset Tries to upgrade (starts some process) obviously does not find what it wants and stops reset the device get only three squares and it stops then put proper cool-er firmware on and upgrade again .. then all ok! Atomic .. look forward to your insights godzil ... I believe cool-er is now bankrupt so im sure they'll not mind |

Ho I understand, this is not due to your pocketbook firmware, but a "feature" of the netronix firmware. NEVER try to boot a netronix fimrware with the SD card inserted and pressing the Enter & 3rd button or you will semi brick your device. This is a "feature"...
