New version of µbook released - 0.9e
Gowerpoint have released a new version of the fantastic µbook reader available for PocketPC and Windows.
This is my favourite ebook reader, partly because it reads many open format file types (text, html, rtf), as well as other formats (palm doc, ereader, mobipocket and pdf, though not if they are encrypted). It's good looking thanks to the many skins, has good built in dictionary support, and is very configurable. Did I mention is looks absolutely beautiful in VGA??? Licences cost $12US, and get rid of nag screens (and it's good value). Enhancements to this version include (courtesy of the Gowerpoint website): - Added Separate Zoom and Annotations for each images - Re-organized Annotations/Table of Content page and Added Illustration Table. - Added Menu item to look-up user entered word in current dictionary (not just through selected word...) (Thanks Peter) - Added User controlable Image color filters for better contrast, gamma correction and yellow reduction. - Added Rotation of buttons/arrow keys with display - Changed slide-show to expand smaller image to fill the page - Improved PML parser - Added Hiding of cursor (PC version) when not moved for 5 seconds - Lotsa fixes and new goodies: - G&B, Grey Paper and Tundracel Skins (thanks to respective artists) - Francais, Hungarian, Italiano and Spanish UI update (thanks to the respective authors) Craig. |

I haven't tried ubook in a while, and somehow it must have slipped my attention that it would also support native (?) PDF files. Craig, are you sure it can read PDF?

Yep, it can extract the text of the PDF and display that, which is better than nothing. I don't use it for PDF's much (at all actually, repligo is much better suited, especially in VGA). Check out the website for the full list of features and other goodies, like extra skins, larger dictionaries (one > 3MB compressed). There's some extra goodies when you buy a license (with more planned), and access to better support too.

Yay! ive been waiting for a new update to uBook. They used to have one every month or so, but that frequency has dropped off. I think .9d was released in April, so this one has been long in coming. Nonetheless better late than never.

Yeah. I check the gowerpoint site fairly regularly (at least weekly) to see when a new release is out... The next one looks like it will be a good one (I've been waiting for import/export of annotations, etc for a while).
