Are there any real good books on Smashwords at all? If so, why haven't they been published by a traditional (either the dead-tree ones or the digital ones) publisher? |

Interzone magazine is participating in the sale (75% off regular price): https://www.smashwords.com/books/search?query=interzone The Lara McClintoch Archaeological Mysteries by Lyn Hamilton are all free during the sale (originally published by Berkley Prime Crime): https://www.smashwords.com/books/byseries/343 It's worth a look, IMHO. I’ve picked up quite a few backlist titles: Melissa Scott, Elizabeth Scarborough, Lawrence Watt-Evans, Bill Pronzini, Moyra Caldecott all spring to mind. The only problem is the appallingly bad search interface...

If you haven't checked out the previous Smashwords sales, it's probably worth taking a look at the threads for the two previous sales this year (links below). The authors who choose to put their works on sale each time are usually pretty much the same, and usually mostly the same titles too, so I've found seriously diminishing returns for scouring through the books on sale after you've done it a couple of times. (And totally agree on the horrible search engine...)
But if you haven't checked out the Smashwords sales before, luckily if you look at the last couple of threads, folks will have largely done the scouring through for you. July 2017 sale thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=288225 March 2017 sale thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=284228 There are threads for the even older Smashwords sales too, but that diminishing returns thing... If you really want them, you can search for and find the older threads too... Last edited by sufue; 12-26-2017 at 08:49 AM. |

Thanks to all of you for the info about Smashwords. The utilitization, by authors, of Smashwords for their backlist titles was especially intriguing . . . .
I looked through the selection at Smashwords during a sale of theirs about 5 years ago, and was very disappointed in their selection of what I read--non-fiction. I don't remember going to Smashwords' website since. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 12-26-2017 at 11:38 AM. |

In all honesty, out of the dozen or so authors I’ve favourited on Smashwords, only one has had a new title out this year. I’ll probably check it out once more before the end of the sale, but I doubt I shall make any purchase.
