Lifecycle of a new Kindle
I kind of appreciate the life-cycle of a new Kindle announcement here on MobileReads. After many years I have observed it goes something like the following:
1. New Kindle announced in press release / videos that demo the new device. 2. We all get a bit excited. 3. For many of us we say no, we will not upgrade, our current Kindle is good enough. 4. We discuss the new device some more. 5. Slowly our resistance crumbles and we find ways to justify buying a new Kindle. 6. We announce the arrival dates of our new Kindle and eagerly look forward to it. 7. New Kindles arrive. The postings of "my screen is blotchy, I am returning it to Amazon" begins. 8. Others do posts to compare the new Kindle screen to the previous one. 9. We resume reading on our new Kindles and say this is it, no more upgrades for the next few years...until next year's announcement! |

You left out the part where people disagree about whether a screen picture is evidence of defect or looks perfectly fine.

I really enjoy all those debates about new Kindles. Of course, my bank account is far from happy. I think I would still be reading on my Basic Kindles in blissful ignorance if not for MR.

Thing is, unless Amazon brings out a new 7" Kindle and you've found you really like reading with a 7" screen, the Oasis will keep. But if Amazon was to bring out a 7" Voyage, the Oasis would be closet fodder.

Not for me. I have both the Voyage and the Oasis and neither is closet fodder. I actually prefer the shape of my Oasis to the shape of the Voyage.

hahahah ALL this has ever done for me is to NOT Buy! To scared I get a Defective device. + Voyage & the Oasis are WAY to expensive. I am still trying to get up the nerve to order a Japan PW3, which has 32 gig. Too bad Amazon refuses to sell them in the US.

If I like the Oasis screen I'll probably be able to tolerate the page buttons. The recent Paperwhite update was great and made me consider stocking up on Paperwhites for the day Kindle stops making them. But, I enjoy driving my 1998 pickup, too, even if a young man asked me where the USB port was on the radio. |

I have. I'm curious. I can also play with it for thirty days and return it. I've never done that but I could.
I bought a Paperwhite2 and two weeks after I got it the Paperwhite3 was announced. I felt really petty but I called and told Kindle I wanted to return it just so I could by a Paperwhite3 at the same price. They couldn't have been nicer. |

I don't read as much as I would like, but I do like having a lite device when I do read. I love my Voyage when I first got it, but I am thinking that I will like the design of the Oasis better and will be more comfortable holding it with one hand.
