Kindle DXi 2.5.8 Missing Certificate
Hi guys
I have quite few kindles and recently added a DX international to the collection. I bought it at a goodwill and the previous owner was still registered on the unit. I did a factory reset and then did the 2.5.8 update. Now I cant register. Phoned amazon support and they registered it to my account. Still no go get an error that "Kindle is unable to connect at this time" . I can connect to the kindle store via the dx and browse books but can't register. I checked the 411 page and saw that the certificate is missing. Any advice will be much appreciated. |

Sorry should have been more clear. I spend hours with them on the phone, was transferred to a specialist who eventually said he will phone me back in 48 hours so see if anything changed. Something about their system taking 48 hours to update which sounded a bit suspicious.

I know they usually phone back to check, and I have always been impressed with their follow up and service. What was suspicious was that he told me to wait 48 hours to see if the registration issue fixes itself. I am convinced that I had an update related issue / error that will not fix itself.

I have a similar but slightly different problem. I have a DXG (I like the bigger screen) which I purchased used. Generally it's fine but won't connect over 3G. So called Amazon support, and after a very frustrating time eventually got someone on the phone who seem to know what they are talking about, and actually knew what a DXG was, anyway it turns out Amazon (both UK and US) have no record of the DXG serial no. and therefore it won't register. Whilst the is mostly not a problem, the time is wrong on the device (normally set from the 3G provider) and that seems to stop KUAL loading (it seems to alternate between saying its not registered as a development machine and complaining about the date not being set/in range. It's JB and has the SS hack successfully installed. is there anything I can do to set the date & get KUAL working ?

The wrong date can also affect certificates, because their authorization is time-sensitive. Your "missing certificate" error could be a side effect of wrong date. You can set the date manually (a "search" command), if you cannot update it via 3G.
FYI, this sort of question can be answered much more quickly and thoroughly if posted in the Kindle Developers Corner sub-forum, where the kindle hackers hang out. But yeah, eschwartz's answer is relevant here too, in that the recent required update (which must now be side-loaded over USB) also affects certificates. I have the same problem.
I got a new one, sealed Kindle DXG It was updated for the software 2.5.8. And then Amazon registered it. But once I tried purchasing an item, I was unable to make any purchases because it was unregistered, when it absolutely registered. How did you solve the problem? Quote:

Did you manually download the certificate update, and set the date?

I had a similar issue with my Kindle DX 3G, which is a refurbished unit I got recently. The 411 page shows "Certificate: missing". I've downloaded "update-caupdate-09.bin" from Amazon, and installed on my Kindle DX (which has version 2.5.8 software already). Still cannot connect to the Kindle store. The 3G bars are all empty. The 311 page shows only 2 available wireless providers: AT&T MicroCell 3G, and AT&T MicroCell 2G. Also, may I ask how to set time on Kindle. You've once posted a link. I followed the link to type in some command in the search page, but it didn't work. Do I need to jailbreak the Kindle DX to do that? Your help shall be much appreciated. Best |
