The Joy of UnStuffing!!
For years I have dealt with an obsessive (grin) inability to throw away a book. Hey, I might want to read it again! There have been a couple I've burned, they were so awful, but throw one away that I enjoyed? nuh uh not happening...many other 'Stuffers' out there will understand, you can't ever have enough 'stuff'.
Consequently, I have books everywhere. In the basement, in the bedroom, in every closet, under the bed...BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS. Lately I've been experiencing the joy of Stuffing *without* Stuffing. I take a pile of books from wherever they are in the house, and check the Kindle store. Those titles that are available electronically are packed in a box and taken to a nearby nursing home, where they are welcomed with enthusiasm. I don't necessarily have to actually BUY the Kindle book (though often I do)...just knowing I can get it immediately off Whisper should I want to read it is enough. This week, the nursing home has gotten a full set of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files (a favorite series which nonetheless takes up a lotta space). They have all of Harry Potter. They have Anita Blake up to book 8, where it started being porn and I stopped buying it. They have classic sci fi and new urban fantasy. They love the books and I love the extra space! So what are YOU doing with your old paper copies??? |

I don't have a problem getting rid of books. My problem is finding time to weed through the books and decide which ones go. For several months I made an active effort. One of the full bookcases is next to my craft table. While slathering paint onto some unsuspecting birdhouse, I'd look at the titles and try to remember the plot of the books in my line of sight. If I couldn't recall the last time I read the book, the plot, or anything about the book, it was destined for the Friends of the Library book sale.
I also bring books to my office and let co-workers take what they like. A couple of them have similar tastes in literature. Dreamer |

Yeah, ya got me, Harry Potter is not available, but in the midst of cleaning the shelf, I decided it was not a series I would read again. Started out too happy, ended up too sad. If I want to cry, I can do that for free....
