Kindle MatchBook: Get the Kindle version of a previously-bought paper book cheap/free
Amazon have announced Kindle MatchBook, which will launch in October. If you've bought a paper book from Amazon at any time, and the Kindle book is enrolled in the Matchbook program, you'll be able to get the Kindle version $2.99, $1.99, $0.99, or free (price is set by the publisher).
I believe this is something that has been frequently requested by MobileRead users. Press release Kindle MatchBook website |

"Print purchases all the way back to 1995—when Amazon first opened its online bookstore—will qualify once a publisher enrolls a title in Kindle MatchBook."
Wow! Way to go Amazon. |

The possible fly in the ointment is "once a publisher enrolls a title in Kindle MatchBook". The press release says over 10,000 books will be available at launch, but that's a pretty small fraction compared to the millions of books that Amazon sells. Still, if the ones I want are included, I'll be happy

Looks awesome! 10,000 books is not that many, but it would be interesting to see a list of publishers involved at launch. Once a publisher is on board, I guess they would add more and more titles.

Here's where I start thinking, out of the paper books I bought from Amazon, how many have I already since bought in eBook format... From my order history it does seem like a fair amount

This is a great idea... the flaw, for me is:
1. I have a lot of paper books I didn't buy from Amazon. 2. I have donated/trashed a huge amount of my paper book collection since I just didn't have the shelf space to keep it. Oh well... I already read all the books I got rid of... if the e versions are free, I will pull the trigger, but doubt I would pay for any, except maybe for some tech books which I use to get the paper versions of. It is a step in the right direction. Amazon has a list of everything you bought so it is something they can do. I did not buy a ton of books through Amazon so I am not going to see a benefit but I think it is a great idea.
