Google Reader Shutting Down July 1, 2013
This is freaking me out a bit. I don't know what to replace it with.

That was my replacement from iGoogle which they are also shutting down I guess Google really doesn't want me using them anymore. I think I'm really starting to dislike Google actually .

Really bad news. Reader provides the back-end for a ton of third-party apps.

I know, right? I am still using iGoogle...there are other sites, just about as good, that do what iGoogle does, I'll just move to one of them when Google doesn't want me anymore.

I also use Google Reader to get around some net nanny ware at work. Well, dammit, I'll have to find another aggregator too.

I really don't know what to replace it with either. No otherone I can think of had the back end. Most just check when you run the app, so you can miss articles in between uses. Also, I loved how it kept the favorited and read articles synced. I hate reading an article on one machine, and switch to something else and the RSS feed reader showed it as unread there. Google Reader made that not a problem.

I'm subscribed to a heck of a lot of feeds of a diverse nature. Least it's not tomorrow, but I don't relish trying out the alternatives. |

I used Bloglines before I started using Google Reader. I might have to go back to Bloglines

This is the first google service shut down that effects me. It is my morning news paper as well my night time reading before I fall asleep. At least they are allowing me to export out the feed data to import somewhere else.
The startup that has a webapp for chrome and firefox and mobile apps for Android and iOS and sync between them is going to make a killing. |

Wtf, google? My 3rd most used app -- besides mail and browser -- is an rss reader that relies on google reader. Now what?

I do hope they reconsider. This has been a mainstay for me. It baffles me a bit that they claim usage is down. That may be, but usage still has to be enormous. And it does make Google stickier, at least for me. Do they really want people wandering off somewhere else?
On the other hand, this could be just what I need to free up more time for higher quality activities. |
