A great free Dreamweaver-alternative:

Nvu is a new free Web editing environment based on the Mozilla platform and its Gecko layout engine. Primarily made for Linspire and other Linux flavors, its cross-platform architecture makes it available on a wide variety of other platforms.

It has a super-fast, very reliable, standards conformant engine maintained on a daily basis by a wide community of developers.

I tried this a couple of versions back and it was just too basic, with not enough functionality to be of much use. Looks like a lot has changed since then. I'd be curious to hear what experiences people have with it.
