Agee, James: A Death in the Family. V1. 16 June 2012
A Death in the Family
by James Agee (1957) James Rufus Agee (November 27, 1909 – May 16, 1955) was an American author, journalist, poet, screenwriter and film critic. In the 1940s, he was one of the most influential film critics in the U.S. His autobiographical novel, A Death in the Family (1957), won the author a posthumous 1958 Pulitzer Prize. (Wiki) Synopsis: A Death in the Family remains an enduring classic of American literature. Jay Follet is healthy, robust, and in the prime of life when he sets out from home one hot summer night to tend to his sick father. He leaves behind a wife and two small children, promising to return the next evening if at all possible. From this simple situation, Agee weaves an enthralling story of the complex ways that people deal with life, love, and loss. Such a novel as this belongs with things to be cherished always.
