Wi-fi may tempt train travellers
According to a British survey carried out in March and April of 2004 questining more than 1,600 people, 72% of business travellers asked said onboard wi-fi web access would make them more likely to choose trains over cars or planes. It also found that the longer the journey that people took, the more interested they became in using web access on trains to get some work done.

Interesting...
I was reading the little wifi insert in the last issue of Conde Nast Traveler that many airlines are adding wifi routers to fleet on their long-haul flights as an inticement for business travelers. I obviously live in the States, and in a choice between taking the Amtrak Metroliner with wifi service or the Delta/US Airways shuttles b/w NYC and DC and wifi were involved, I know lots of people who opt for the train so that they can get work done. It's not unusual to see staff meetings on the Metroliner. The fare is roughly the same price between air and train too. |
