Protection from malware?

I don't know anything about Android, only worked with Windows. Is there any way to safeguard from downloading malicious software onto the Vox?

Thanks for the info. I googled "Lookout for Android" and came up with a link to this:

Lookout is the most used AV for android wether its the absolute best is debatable but its definatly in the top 3. i use it on my Motorola Electrify and it works well for me and easy to use

What about Lookout's demand on resources? Should I expect much of a decrease in performance?

ive not seen it on my Motorola electrify or on my samsung galaxy tab 7" and my galaxy tab has les memory and has an older generation single core processer.
