Better screen the second time around?
The 5-way controller on my Kindle 2 split while under warranty so I had it replaced. The unit they replaced it with was the same model number but had significantly better screen contrast. A week or two ago I bought my wife a refurb US Wireless model when they were $109 at Amazon Warehouse. She had the same model as mine. It had the lower contrast screen but it had a line in it. When they replaced hers, she also got a screen with better contrast. What's up with that? Anyone know?

Luck of the draw. There's some variation with these e ink screens it seems. If you have a good one, it's best to hold on to it and ignore minor defects that don't affect the functionality or readability of the screen.
