Who do YOU write like?
I saw this site out there on the world wide web. Copy a few paragraphs of your writing onto the box, and see which famous author your prose most resembles.
I copied a few paragraphs from my blog and I'm not sure I like the results, seeing as how often he's ripped apart here on MR (at least twice).... I write like... Dan Brown! I then put in a few paragraphs from my work-related reports and got..... Dan Brown! So I put in a few paragraphs from the journal article that I am in the process of submitting and got.... H.P. Lovecraft! Finally, I copied a random post from here on MR and got.... Cory Doctorow. I'm not sure what to think. Try it out and let us know who you get! |

I tried out three or four also. I ended up with the same results: C Doctorow, HP Lovecraft, and Dan Brown. I tried the beginning, middle, and ending of my various writings / posts and received the same three names.

I copied the introduction of an academic project and the answer was: H. P. Lovecraft.
With the introduction of an academic paper the answer was: David Foster Wallace. |

I've seen this site before. Kind of fun, but very inconsistent.

Pound away randomly on your keyboard for a few seconds. You'll still get a comparison. This:
"Aksljdfa ;al a al;jsdf;ljas f;asljdf lakhflkhas flkhaslfkh aslkfdhailshdf; llkha;lk ;kh ;ja; ;laj la ;’aj lkja ;f;lahs ;lkf ;lahs flkhalksfh lhkja ghflkjah lsfkjajkbal;fkjhlaish ;lahrt;lqijwef;jash ldfhjalskfh ;laskjh ;alkj iuah ;lak hlkaj alkh ;alfh lasn ;ash; askj;fklja’sfdjl;kasd;flasm lkjas’; lj;lak j;lakjsh f’ajanhsd;f a;kfj;lka ;flghe;o’fjoasijhf ajnlkfj’;la ‘ ‘akjfs;lakjf ;alih slfkj; kja;lfi h;la;fokhja ‘;gja;i ‘aksjc;lakks f’pl;aks ;h’a ;afj;an ;afksm;lkajlfkaj’;g ah;fglka’df eha’f;lka ‘e;lakfl’kna ‘f ;’aljdf;lkahsf a;lsdjf;klah’lf;ma ‘aj ;al’ ;asfjlh’;lbm;alkfs;akw’fmxzk;kza’p; a’;lkf’a;lka ‘fljka ‘lakf ;lkmj’a k’;lak f’laksflaksjf’ ;lkas ‘ alkf’akf;lja’s j;a/;sf ;alskf;la ;lafk;lah ;lakfhlkj;as;lfdha;lfh klajf;lajf;l aj;ha ‘h; afj;a fakj [a ‘;lkfaj’lkfsd a’;lajf’lja flkja’lskjf ;’akj ;alkjf;aljf; agh;a;sjgf;laj flha;fkj elghaf;lsdlkugadsflfh kj;al ha;lj ;lahf; ahflhasf;lh" Is written like David Foster Wallace. This: "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zz" (there were no spaces in the original-- the forum code broke it up) Is written like William Shakespeare. Drop a few random spaces in it: "Zzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzz" And it is written like Arthur Clarke. And if I wanted to publish one of those three brilliant works-- well, they are willing to sell me a book to tell me how! |

I wondered why my 'style' changed and was three completely different people. Honestly, my writing is pretty much the same through all three pieces, except I chose varying amounts of dialogue to sample.

I know I am! It thinks I write like Cory Doctorow... which means nothing to me. A couple of paragraphs down from the same chapter and I write like Stephanie Meyer.
I reckon it just throws up a random name whatever you put in the box. Cheers MTM |
