Cell tower diagrams also look like honeycombs so maybe they should have been comb networks and combphones. Dale |

or honey phones, for... no, never mind
in french, we call them téléphone mobile or just mobile or [téléphone] portable... no cells involved, stem or otherwise. |

We're getting to the point around here where we're calling them mostly just "cell" (as in "call me on my cell"), but "mobile" has started to gain some ground recently. Perhaps because of smartphone type convergence so that folks think of them more as "mobile devices" than phones.
I'm still hoping for the shoe phone. |

Doesn't really matter, of course, I just like to occasionally take a measure of how reliable my memory is.

You are missing the point. The goal is not to remember obsolete terminology, but to actively attempt to obsolete current terminology in favor of obscure foreign or entirely fictitious alternatives. A process I hereby annoint with the verb "to mozzle".
[Gentle Reader, please assume this post emblazoned with whatever inane emoticons requisite to render this post amusing rather than offensive, a process henceforth mozzled to "passive emotifaction".] Last edited by Taylor514ce; 03-18-2008 at 03:36 PM. |

If the choice is to either mozzle or to muzzle, I choose mozzling.
[Gentle reader: please note the liberal use of active and inane emotification in this post.] |

NO- no, not emotification, that would be a GeorgeBushism. Emotifaction. Usage:
"That Taylor is the rudest person on the site. He's constantly berating people and going off-topic." "No, you misunderstand him. You have to emotifactor his posts." "Oh really? Why, you're right! When I emotifactor his posts, he's not rude, he's freakin' hilarious. I should retroactively give him Karma." |
