Never mind, I figured out the problem with buttons not working. It was actually a bug in the beta build process -- the build process was adding an older version of the server code by mistake, that had that bug. I'm building a new beta which should fix that (and a number of other bugs that none of you have found yet
Sorry about the mixup |

on my Linux Mint 18.1 system your install command did not work
Code:
mkdir calibre-beta && tar -C calibre-beta xvf /path/to/downloaded/tarball.tar.xz Code:
tar: You must specify one of the '-Acdtrux', '--delete' or '--test-label' options Try 'tar --help' or 'tar --usage' for more information. Code:
mkdir calibre-beta && tar xvf /path/to/downloaded/tarball.tar.xz -C /home/username/calibre-beta bernie |

Running the beta from source works on Win10 Pro. It took forever to start up the first time, around a minute with a processor pegged at 100%. Second time was fine. There was no delay when running the binary.
The calibre companion changes made way-back-when to support changing libraries in the content server are still working. |

I've uploaded a new beta build 2.99.1 which should fix all reported problems, except the calibre portable one for which I still dont have any ideas.
Note that after you update, if you still have the browser open, you will need to hit refresh to actually update the code running in the browser. Once again, apologies for the mixup. @gbm: You can access the virtual libraries by clicking the three dots on the main library screen (you need to update to 2.99.1 first) And thanks for the correction, i'll update the tar command in the post Last edited by kovidgoyal; 05-10-2017 at 11:25 AM. |

@chaley: That's because when running from source the first time it has to compile the server code (from rapydscript to javascript)

@chaley: Glad to hear that CC is still working. FYI the server actually does already support making changes to libraries although I had previously said that it would not in time for 3.0. I know you are interested in that. Currently the API to do it is not very convenient, it is designed for use by calibredb (see the file cdb.py) but no reason we cannot add more API that is suitable for CC, if needed.

4 GUI Plug-ins Failed Due to calibre.db: CALM, ZMI, LC and MFI
The 4 plug-ins that used calibredb as a powerful "single API to automatically invoke many other specialized APIs", and no longer will be able to do so in Calibre 3.0.0, have been changed to use each specialized API individually instead. They no longer use calibredb.

The covers in the grid are designed to be about a fifth of the window width. So if you narrow the window, they should shrink automatically.

@DaltonST I told you a long time ago to not use calibredb.exe to make changes to the calibre database and that doing so would break eventually (not to mention that it can lead to data corruption to have calibredb and the GUI potentially making changes to the library simultaneously).
You chose not to listen -- not much I can do about that. As for deprecating plugins, I dont see much point. If you dont plan on fixing your plugins to use the proper database API instead of calibredb, then I suggest simply removing them from the plugin index after calibre 3 is released. Or if you want to leave them around, that's fine too. You can add some code to the plugins to popup a helpful error message if they detect they are running in calibre 3. There are a few plugins that even today have not been ported to Qt 5 and so fail to run. Your plugins will simply become a part of that set. Last edited by kovidgoyal; 05-10-2017 at 03:17 PM. |

Aside of the problem with Calm, I've checked and the beta changes the font in the detail panel, not the size. And there's a slight problem with the series view (The number, preposition and series are together: "1dePsy-Changeling)... and I have to change my modifications to the metadata plugboard
