Making a shopping list for Friday.
I plan on going to Utrecht, say hi to our old neighbours, visit the new record store and the other one that moved and run some errands I can't get at our shopping center. I'm starting to get used to having to plan my errands/shopping. After 43 years of living in the city center and running errands whenever I can't do that anymore. The only shop walking distance is a small supermarket. The local big shopping center is a 10 minute cycle ride away. It's got a good selection of shops. But there are still some I miss. So every two or three weeks I head into Utrecht to get things there. |

But I think I'm closer to the big city than you? It's about 25 minutes by tram (plus an 8 minute walk from home to the the tram stop). I'm glad I can get most things at the local big shopping center. Going into the big city is now kind of a treat. The shopping list is made, now to decide where to have lunch tomorrow. |

But I don't think there are places in the Netherlands that are as remote as you are. Before I can go shopping I haven to wait for a package to arrive. Which is currently estimated to arrive in 90 minutes. Enough time to do the weekly chores I think. Meanwhile I'm also mentally preparing for Sunday. Because there several new neighbours, us included, someone's organizing a get together. We're expected to bring our own drinks and have an opportunity to meet new people. Luckily it's set to last only two hours. But the weather prediction is that it's going to be 29℃. So we'll have to wait and see how long I last in the heat with a lot of people I don't know. |

Digitizing the last of my cds. Some I'm keeping, most I've either already taken to the second hand store or they will be donated next week.
Next week, when it's a bit cooler, I'm going to be putting all my books, cds and dvds in my bookcase. I'm hoping everything fits, I know my music box set won't due to size, so I'll store those. Next step is to order the record/cd/cassette player I have had my eye on for a while and see where I can get spare needles for it. |

I just booked a couple of days away to Bruges in Belgium. My sister and I went there years ago. We mostly did what she wanted and I've always wanted to go back and explore the city my way, which is mostly just wandering the city instead of having a rigid itinerary. I'm taking the train and I'm leaving on the 30th, hopefully I have good weather.

Cats, cats and more cats...
Long story, but we ended up with two lovely, slightly-used, new-to-us cats. One is two; the other is three, both ladies (spayed, of course).
However, these lovelies do not seem to be really familiar with, wait for it, computer monitors. The younger one (who should have been named "The Brat," by anyone's view of the term, pretty much, not counting pols), thinks that the MAGIC MOVIN' THING on the screen is WAY COOL! And it flies across all three of those screens! Oooooo, it goes in many directions, super-fast! Oy. Nothing like pounds of Maine Coon running around your desktop, bound and determined to catch the evil flying cursor. I'm working on Catly Education but right now, I think the only one being educated is me as in, "this is why at our ages, we probably really shoulda gone with MUCH MUCH older cats," lol. I'd also forgotten just how much work/effort is required for very young cats! Wowzers. Hitch |

But first we need to finish up with the "big" things in the house. Right now the solar panels are being installed. On Friday the new sofa will be delivered and next Friday the crawlspace will be insulated. Some smaller things will need to be done, but I'm glad when all the big fuss is over. |

Sorry to lecture here, but I swear, the irresponsibility of people around breeding mixed-breed, unwanted animals, especially to each other (the dogs/cats, I mean, especially dogs!!!) and then...nm. I can't. The only reason I wish I were a billionaire would be to establish animal rescue operations that would focus primarily on not only homing and re-homing, but spay and neuter and some small attempt (small only because People Iz Stoopid) at human education about the topic. Sigh. (Yeah yeah, I know, this isn't the V&R thread, I'll shaddup now.) Hitch |

We're probably going to adopt a cat from an organization that rehomes pets for people who move house and for whatever reason can't take their pet with them. My sister want to get a male cat (we've only ever had females) because, according to her research, those tend to be cuddlier than female cats.
When we wanted new cats previously we wanted two that got along, so the shelter put us on a list for that. When they called us they got two kittens that were up for adoption together they told us that we might not want them because they were black, so apparently black cats are also harder to find homes for, even when they are kittens. We didn't care and adopted Luna and Maru. Who are, btw, very happy in my parents' new apartment. I'm really looking forward to getting a cat, I just miss having one around. |

My younger cat is also black! I was asked to foster him because the lady who has initially adopted him called the shelter to complaining that the cat is "stinky, but wants to sleep on her cushion", and that he needs to be taken away ASAP.
I took him away from her. He was indeed stinky, but he has eventually washed himself. I couldn't imagine giving him away and adopted him. He still sleeps on my cushion. Last edited by DJUNGELSKOG; 09-20-2024 at 11:59 AM. |
